HonestIago, I know you have unsubscribed but I felt I had to answer your post. Please remember that some of the digibox users are only now finding their way back to h2g2, surely they are allowed their say, after all it did affect them. Most were not able to answer before now and Loup has had to speak up for those who cannot do it for themselves.

But what effect will anything they say have?
Really? Will it cahnage anything? No. Will it send a message to aka and saturnine? I'd guess they stopped reading a long time ago. This thread's been going round in circles for over 600 posts. Do you really think anyone's going to add a new perspective or cause a seismic change in anyone's opinions?

Okay I lied, I didn't really unsubscribe, it seemed really wierd to try and do so. AlleyCat, if you look through the backlog I was one of the most regulare posters criticising what had been done, but it eventually came to the point where all the arguments had been made and this conversation was doing harm to the wider community, possibly more harm than aka and Sat's actions as this thread was regularly at the top of Askh2g2, which is often one of the first places newbies checked out when they joined and they would read a conversation that showed a community bitterly in-fighting rather than getting along peacefully and amicably as we all know it usually does.
I still think Sat and aka did a nasty thing, but everything that can be said has been said and it is time for us to move on

i would doubt it but really anyone who is bothered by the thread or any other for that matter might as well just unsubscribe,,,it's a pity really the system is a bit screwy i guess

No, no seismic changes in anyones opinion at all but just giving them the same courtesy everyone else has had over the past couple of months.

HonestIago, I have read every word in this thread and I do take your point regarding Newbies, I honestly don't want to see h2g2 split as it has been over the past couple of months and had no intention of starting it all up again. I just wanted people to realise the digibox users really can't be blamed for wanting to say something having been silenced so abruptly, some hadn't even made their way to the AKA thread before they were cut off.
I shall do my best to stay silent, however, that is not a promise.

I don't think you should be silent, there are a lot of things that have been started to help digiboxers and I'm sure you know loup. has been involved in a lot of them - I just this conversation has ceased to be useful

i think you'll find there are very few digiboxers left i personally never saw any sort of debate prior to the debacle

Hi everyone,
The reason that there was no "public debate" was that the researchers did not act on behalf of the h2g2 community, DNA, BBCi or any other organisation. They acted on their *own* in informing Telewest of the loophole. Subsequently, Telewest acted on its own to close the loophole. The company didn't *have* to close the loophole after it was reported, but they chose to.
Therefore, I'm afraid that statements such as "It shouldn't have been in my name" and questions such as "Why didn't I see the debate?" aren't helpful, and are highly, highly unlikely to encourage Telewest to "unplug" the loophole. Instead, asking them will just likely lead to yet more flame wars, which I'm sure that the majority of us don't want to see.

I have not posted to any of the threads debating the digibox user problems, but i did feel strongly enough to post in my own journal.II am using h2g2 as often as possible now,and only two weeks ago i had a conversation with a telewest representative about the whole situation. We spent almost two hours on the telephone trying to sort out the problems, and she was veryvery helpful, even though she knew i had used a link to the site.
I have tried to e-mail loup with the info i was given, and my mail will not send.IF however, loup would like to get in touch with me,i will mail him ,and we can discuss this in private.I will also send the e-mail addy of the person i spoke to,and the information she gave me.I found it heart warming that telewest didn't seem to have a problem with me using a link at all!!!

[I have actually restrained myself from responding to certain postings, on this threads _and_ other related threads, for quite a while now...]
smurfles: I will get in touch...

On the strangely "deja vu" topic:
While "deja vu" might, according to Master B [who would trust someone who don't own a mobile phone anyway?!], literally mean "already seen",
"deja vous" literally means "already you"...

Cutiechops: Just because I have a differing opinion doesn't make my statements crap. And your nickname sure isn't lending credibility to your statements. As for that "no one asked the community", who cares? From what I gather, no one cares. No one but the digiboxers, a select few friends and aka & Saturnine are even discussing this. I didn't even know what a digibox was until AFTER the telewest link was closed, and quite frankly, from the riffraff I've been introduced to due to my friendship with aka, I'm not really fond of digibox supporters.
The bottom line is that they'll come back if it's that important to them. If they do it legally now, good for them. If not, they ought to accept that their access may be lost at any time. It's just like speeding when you're driving. You have to understand that you may get stopped and ticketed. It's a risk that comes with breaking the law.

>"no one asked the community", who cares?<
I seem to remember that some of Aka and Saturnine's defenders were adamant that they had consulted the community... So that seemed to be important enough at the time...
>quite frankly, from the riffraff I've been introduced to due to my friendship with aka, I'm not really fond of digibox supporters.<
Oh dear... does that mean that I won't be on your Christmas list then?!...
Then again, I might be alright as I only support the Digibox Users, _not_ the digibox itself...

Oh yes, I knew there was a good reason why I could not resist the temptation to respond this time...
>It's a risk that comes with breaking the law.<
What about the risk that comes with publicly making defamatory statements by the way?!
For the record:
Telewest haven't taken _any_ legal actions against their customers who used the link.
Telewest haven't confiscated the digibox [STB] from their customers who used the links either.
Telewest haven't made any official comments/statements saying that their customers who used the link broke the law or/and their service agreement.
So, where are the evidence backing up your statement?!...

Not sure if I qualify as a digibox supporter either as I've never even seen one, but I like the idea of being riffraff

My TV set is a true digibox supporter... The STB is safely resting on it...
Jean Gabin became famous playing a riffraff in movies...
Perhaps I should consider a change of career...
