The area codes for Los Angeles used to be 213 and 310. I think there are about 5 or 6 now.

France had (still has?) the same prefix on car reg numbers as in postal code. I remember Pas de Calais was 69.

Do I have to dial the country code 0044 if I'm calling from abroad?

00 => international, next digit (or digits) => the country. No idea what happens when you try a private call to 007.

France changed their licence plate registration numbering recently (last year? Mine still has the old system). The origin of the driver is not featured anymore, so as to prevent regionism ("Bloody Parisians, shouldn't be allowed to drive a wheelbarrow"). You are allowed (or compelled, not sure about that) to pick a two-digit number to feature as sort of a decoration for your plate somewhere, but it's not part of the official registration number, and you can pick whatever you like.
I'll probably pick 42 when time has come, if I don't keep 51 that is.

We have letters(town) - letters(by list) numbers (by list).
Hildesheim has HI...when they reached V in the number code someone decided HI-V would not look very good and skipped it.

In Bad Segeberg, Germany, the letter X is only given to people who explicitly ask for it. Little wonder, considering that Bad Segeberg's letter code is SE...
Any takers that "SE-XY 69" has long been asked for?
Y.

I'v edefinitely seen some SE-XY, but I can't remember if the numbers was 69 afterwards
I've also seen a guy from Cologne with K - OO 7
(though the Cologne bit had nothing to do).
And I have seen a few BI-LL's when I was in Bielefeld, and some KI-LL's now in Kiel. Could have made a custom jacket for some Tarantino movie with these.

The nicest one I´ve seen was from Göttingen, and I saw it near University here. "Göre" translates as "brat", so
GÖ-RE 1989 was probably bought and registered by dad.

A German researcher, Bossel, who has stopped posting now, lived in Munich and had the registration plate: M DA 4242
He proudly posted a photo once. I can't find the link, but here's a thread where he mentions it:
