Mr. X ---> "Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!" Posted May 5, 2010
Yay! I made it through 550 posts of backlog!
It only took me 3 1/2 hours.
And no one missed me.
On the other hand, the (American) G.I. Bill guaranteed that all returning (American) WWII veterans would receive funding for college, should they choose to go.
Yarr! I'm back, me hearties!

And a good idea that was! (Both the G.I. Bill and your coming back.) When you are a Norman Normal in today´s US, I believe sending your children to college is akin to financial suicide. Even when it isn´t Harvard, where afaik the fees amount to US$ 47,000. Per year.

I'm glad to say Scottish tuition is way cheaper than that, otherwise I'd never have been able to set foot into university.

The cost of college educations in the U.S. have risen drastically over the last 30 years. Some speculate that it is largely due to an abundance of financial aid. The reasoning is that with all that money out there, universities and colleges have gotten better at recruiting and securing those funds then raised tuition fees to match. Most of those funds go for more administration (and football stadiums, of course) rather than improving teacher pay and curricula.

CZ - (this is Eurocentered, so it qualifies as completely useless for you) Same here. I went to a top notch Gymnasium (Grammar School? High School? Slightly different systems)and it was for free, books included. Nowadays Mom has to find a job at housecleaning if she wants her offspring to acquire a better chance in life.

If you have information that you can't act on then it's literally useless.
If I had studied hard I could have gotten a scholarship to university. This bit of information is true but useless since it's forty years too late.

"It´s never too late and seldom too early" As this was the advertising line for some stuff that allegedly got your hair growing again, I can testify it was pretty useless.

While I'm on the subject: The Declaration of Independence is often touted as the only unanimous decision of the American Congress, but in fact, the (American) G.I. Bill was as well. Also, FDR signed it into law on June 22, 1944.

Technically, the Declaration was signed by the "Continental Congress".
Also, technically, Peyton Randolph was the first "American President". (He was the first president of the Continental Congress.)

It still is one best declaration of wanting to do things right ever written - pity that it has been commandeered by politicians.
