...Do you own? pairs of shoes that is...
I've got a pair of leather shoes, a pair of hiking boots, a pair of cowboy style boots, a pair of strange ankle length boots and a pair of trainers.

Three. A pair of hiking boots, a pair for swanky occaisions and a pair for everything else. I keep thinking of buying a fourth, swankier-than-everything-else-but-not-so-swanky-as-the-swanky-pair pair but never get round to it...

Hmm, I've probably* still got my old pair of wet suit slippers kicking around somewhere...and my para boots might still be lurking in the garage at my Dads house I need a new pair actually; the 'shoe' type 'smartish' shoes; some of the seeming has gone inside might get a pair this weekend

More than I need at the moment. I have:
2 pairs of slip-on 'flatties' (Flat casual shoes, one pair brown, one black. The black pair needs a bit of repair on the lining)
1 pair of high-heeled slip-on 'smart casual' shoes
1 pair of flat sandals
1 pair of high-heeled sandals
5 pairs of court shoes in various colours / materials (suede, leather, patent leather)
1 pair of gold shoes for evenings out (rarely worn these days)
1 pair of trainers
1 pair of slip-on 'trainers' (they're not really trainers, just that kind of casual shoe)
1 pair of leather+canvas walking shoes
1 pair of walking boots, hardly used
1 pair of 'low back' shoes I wear as slippers
Makes me sound like a British Imelda Marcos. The shoes I wear regularly are the brown flatties, the trainers and the slip-on 'trainers'. One pair of court shoes (black leather) sometimes gets worn at work. The 'low back' shoes are in daily use, of course.

makes me feel less excessive at contemplating replacing a pair of shoes with a new pair So what does one pay, on average, for a pair of shoes?

1 pair of CAT boots (new)
1 pair of CAT boots with steel toecaps. (old)
1 pair of sandals for sunshine (new)
1 pair of sandals - waterproof (old)
1 pair of brown (or black - colours faded, I can't tell anymore.) mocasins, with odd coloured laces since I can;t find a pair that match and I'm too lazy and broke to go out and buy a set to replace them.
Several pairs of 'neat' shoes inc. one pair of slip-ons, which all came as part of bundle deals when buying suits at Burtons.

A pair of steel-toe high top Red Wings, left over from when I was a carpenter/field engineer.
A pair of glossy slip ons, for use with tuxedo.
A pair of penny loafers, for work and dressy casual.
A pair of Teva sandals for hiking, and just about everything else, and
A pair of trainers when it just gets too cold to wear sandals.

Ok, saying this may get me kicked out of the sorority...
I own:
1 pair of steel-capped boots (all-purpose shoes, I wear them to work and pretty much every other situation, pub, visiting, etc...)
1 pair of (slightly) heeled lace up boots (ie my "special occassion" shoes )
1 pair of sneakers (when I feel like a change from my steel-caps )
...that's it...three pairs of shoes...because I'm THAT girly...

Lord knows...Erm. Maybe eight or so? A pair of trainers, a pair of bright red canvas "Converse" rip-offs...Black work shoes (x2 [though one pair is a men's pair]). Black high heeled boots, some sandals. And my pride and joy - Metallic purple 8-hole doc Marten's
I try not to pay more than $40 a pop for my shoes. Though I will pay up to and over $200 for Docs.

Wellies
Dark brown boots – used pretty much all the time apart from work
Black slip on trainery type things
Tidy black boots for work
Tidy black boots with very small heal – for ‘better’ type occasions
1 pair of black ankle boots kept for summer productions
1 pair sandals
1 pair strappy shoes with heals to go with the only dress I posses for posh dos. Shame I’ve never mastered the art of walking on heals.
More than I thought I owned anyway.
