Yes, that confused me, too!
I, Claudius was made quite some years ago now, though.
For some reason I can't imagine Patrick Stewart as being sexy with hair...

Could we start talking about fanciable older women please - just to make me feel better.
I saw Lulu recently and she looks FAB - could be the botox but she still looks damn good.

Patrick Stewart's hair in 'I Claudius' was a wig. He started to go bald when he was 19 - a condition called 'hereditary alopecia', which I believe his son also suffers. I don't think anybody has ever seen Patrick Stewart in a film / TV program with his own hair. He'd lost it by that stage in his career.
Now there's a thing, totally off the subject. Why do some men think that going bald will make them less attractive? Why do they try to hide it in more or less ridiculous ways? The three men I listed as having 'crushes' on at some stage are all losing their 'crowning glory' (lost it almost completely in Patrick Stewart's case), and yet they are all *very* attractive - dare I say 's*xy'?

I would class someone aged 35 as pretty old _for my tastes_, but if my Dad - aged 50 - said he fancied them, he'd be a lecherous old git.
B
Hmm B you say lecherous I read "competition"
Hard to say what old is some of the people I work with say Im old but in some cases I am 3 times their age. Old is a behaviour and a state of mind. 31 next birthday and I feel old when people say come out and when we get there I dont recognise any of the music
I think crushes on older people would be a better way of putting it.

Ahh. It's a good fitting wig, in that case.
My grandfather started going bald at 17...
Going bald does look bad, if the man in question keeps the rest long. It's only okay when they cut it short, IMO.

Baldness is low maintenance heaven! I've never been tempted to the "Bobby Charlton ridiculous comb-over"
I'll second Helen Mirren, and suggest Frances de la Tour, although last seen in Karaoke/Cold Lazarus, far more attractive than the Ruth Jones persona lusted after by Mr Rigsby
Oh, and though not much older than me, Dawn French *yum*

Mmmm. Gabriel Byrne.
Don't mind me.
So, what's all this stigma about being called old? Is it so bad to be in the later years of life? Ashamed of it, are we? There's nothing dramatically superior about being young, may I point out.

You missed the point entirely. I'm not old at 38. My grandmother is 96 and she will tell you that 80 isn't really old and I would probably agree with her because she wasn't old then. Many people are old at 50 or 60 but that is their attitude not their age. You are living in the past to think that getting close to 40 makes you old. It might have when life expectancy was much, much lower but it certainly doesn't now.
The movie Seven was on tv here the other night. In all the reviews Brad Pitt is referred to as the "young cop". 8 years on you are calling him old. Whatever happened to middle-age? ...and I'm not calling him middle-aged either.

Age is a very complex thing... I know 25 year olds who behave like 40 year olds, and 50 year olds who have the mental outlook of a 20 year old. My gran, who died at 72, was still going out and out-partying much younger women!
Maybe we need the term "comparatively old"!

That could be misconstrued! (cleans mind up)
I think the definition of "old" is on a rolling basis - the younger you are, the younger you define "old".

Agreed. Hence why I originally put 'old' in inverted comments in the subject line.

I think of age as being as many years on this planet.
Not relevant to the personality, intelligence, or experience of the person.
