the exact phrase was "dregs of society". If thats not defamatory then i don't know what is.

Jen
Am just "hopefully" trying to make the point that "txt talk" could be interpretted in many forms...ie abbreviations and smilies alike
I likes the smilies!!!

Understood. I understand about smileys, they are a *common* language form we have here. They represent things and you don't have to learn them like a language since there is a reference page.
As to *txt speech* being part of general society, I would beg to differ. First off, where I live it didn't catch on with phones since it is cheaper to simply talk. The only people who use it here are very young chat room users. If anyone over 15 or so uses it they are considered to be somewhat limited in mental resources shall we say.

you are still using the "us" and "them" catagory. We are all the same here, and thats the point that i'm trying to make.

Yes, I am using *us* and *them*. My whole point is that the use of exclusatory language creates the difference! I am not the person writing and a language form you can't understand. If you are asking me to learn the form, quite frankly I don't see why I should.

CL
Over here it's commonly used...we even have a tv programme called LOL
I guess they are just a way of expressing an emotion (which again I gather is why they're referred to as "emoticons" on pcs) when using non verbal communications
and again I say...I love these smilies.....

But thats my whole point! Not everyone that used LD used text-talk. As a general rule i dont, but your still putting myself and others on here in the catagory of "Ex LDer must use text-talk".

My apologies for lumping you all together as LDers. I was making an assumption, since I don't know all the details. I should have been more specific. In the future I will only refer to *txters*, OK?
Must be off now, but thank you for this conversation. In the words of Arnie *I'll be back.*

1) I never once used the term "scum of the earth" - that in itself is derogatory.
2) I make no pretence of the fact that I am an elitist, and know for certain that I am better than most individuals. Therefore I only subscribe to the following phrase : "The only good stupidity, is silent stupidity". I certainly don't wish to break the law in wishing anyone dead; nor upset the balance of nature, as all people naturally float to the level that they deserve. Without people to fill slots in life, I wouldn't look so good.
3) It ain't over, 'til it's over. I still maintain that ex-LD-ers are responsible for the poorly constructed posts, and I hope that by pointing this out, others will realise it, and more importantly, some of you that are somewhat slack in your communication skills(regardless of whether you are an ex-LD-er or not) will buck up your current standards and communicate upon a higher level.
And to demonstrate my point, this whole thread where you all attempted to defend ex-LD-ers was only populated with three (at the most) who could actually communicate on a legible, respectable manner. The rest of you ranted, insulted, raved, and generally looked untidy. Then, when I went offline, you all cluttered the thread with boring little personal "hellos" and "goodbyes" and smileys, and assumed that my abscence meant you had "won"...
I would be hard pressed to imagine I had been talking to anyone with maturity.
Key: Complain about this post
