Sort of, but their views on sex were that it was OK--and both homosexual and heterosexual sex were reuired of Spartan men.

If I cannot fix people, I can only hope to keep them from doing too much harm to each other.

Then I must create a system that woreks and is beneficial regaurdless of the people. It is a big task.

Someone better and I haven't met anyone else who I'd trust with the job.

Well, from what I've read from you so far, I certainly wouldn't trust *you* to do it.

And, to paraphrase DNA, anyone who wants to do the job should on no account be allowed to do it

I think that his point was more about the corruption in US politics than anything else--to get elected president you have to make promises to too many special interests.
Anyway, I don't want the job; I just don't want to leave it undone.
BTW, why don't you trust me? Any specific reason?

Yes, Lemon, he's a British author so *of course* he's concerned about the *American* political system.
Your arrogance astounds me. *That* is why I don't trust you.

Blackberry Cat , if one wishes to remain an individual in the midst of the teeming multitudes, one must make oneself grotesque Posted Feb 19, 2004
I've never been given or given a name to any of my private parts but a friend refers to part of her anatomy as her golden wine cup. A little too graphic for me .
I'm not sure that an active sex is neccessary or even conduicive to happiness or good mental health. The happiest and unhappiest periods of my life have been when I've been sexually active. The inactive periods have been much more middling. Staying in a bad relationship for the sake of good sex (which I've been foolish enough to do) can be quite deleterious to mental health.
Lemon Blossom have you talked to R. Daneel Olivaw U201118. He holds similar views to you on sexual abstinance and physical pleasure in general, also from a non-Christian standpoint.

I looked up the quote and it reads:
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
I remebered it as "President of the US"; I certainly figured that he was talking about that. Which, I argue, is not arrogance, though it may be illogical. In the US, the term President is regularly used te mean the US president. Britain doesn't have a president, so he can't mean a British leader. The fact is that the US president is the most powerful person to have that title, and I am constantly exposed to references to the US President as "The President", so it is perfectly reasonable, if a bit illogical, that I would assume he was talking about the US president.

I did talk to him/her on the "God: Fact or Fiction" thread for a moment about whether the universe implys a mathematical creator (I think it does), but I never discussed sex with him/her. I'll have to bring it up sometime. Maybe I can get him/her to join the group I set up.

Personally I won't be joining. Nowadays sex is much less important to me than it was when I was your age but I don't believe it to be bad in itself, just our societies obsession with sex and the belief that without sex and sexual relationships we are in some way incomplete.
Anyway I'm much too addicted to other physical pleasures especially food and wine .
