Bels - an incurable optimist. A1050986 Posted Oct 2, 2003
Hello, sorry I haven't been back sooner, but I haven't been feeling too good and things haven't been going as well as I would have liked. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I'm going to be starting another round of chemotherapy, this time with capecitabine (which I had last time) and oxaliplatin, which contains an atom of platinum which is supposed to poison the tumour, but has some rather strange side-effects. So we'll have to see what happens over the next two to three months.

Our thoughts are with you Bels - it's good to hear from you. Hope the platinum atom doesn't give you too hard a time.
s to you and the family - and, as usual, a hefty kick up the jaxsie to Mr Tumour and his minions.

I am sorry to find that all isn't going quite to plan, but I shall keep my fingers crossed that my favourite metal turns things around.

Hi Bels. Sorry to hear about the setback. Life really is an arse. My two friends are being as stoic as you, but it isn't easy. Gwendoline now suffers from serious short term memory loss, she joshes that if they have to cut any more away she won't even be able to remember her name...but it is tricky. She popped into see me this evening and didn't tell the family where she was. I should have realised but didn't and they almost had an APB out on her., scary.
Patrick had a major reality check today as well. he met a friend who he hadn't seen for a long time and who had lost rather a lot of weight.
'You've lost weight' he says.
'Yes I've got lung cancer only a few weeks to go old chap' replies friend.
We had a nice dinner and decided that finite is better than remission which should actualy be called pergatory.
Good to see you are still posting and they haven't managed to remove the sense of humour gene yet!
Take care

Hi Bels, we have never spoken before but I came across this convo and subscribed to keep up-to-date on your progress. Keep up the good work and thank you for letting us in, it seems less of a scary mystery to me now. Still scary though!

Hello again everybody. Sorry I've been offline for so long. Things have been quite tough, but just recently have started improving just a little, a couple of weeks after I started with this platinum treatment, and I can tell you that even a small improvement is an improvement. I saw the doc yesterday and he confirms that my enlarged liver has reduced quite a bit, so things are going in the right direction and I'm carrying on with this weird platinum stuff.
Thanks ever so much for your continued concern - I really appreciate it even when I don't post.
