My mother sits in an armchair most days. Does crossword puzzles, smokes, watches tv, smokes, drinks beer, eats something, does another crossword puzzle, smokes, drinks more beer, smokes some more, watches tv, smokes, goes to bed.

She's 75 and doesn't look a day over 90.

And why wouldn't PYT be welcome here? It's his/her thread!

Besides, without an occasional bit of aggro we get complacent and start doting on our aged parents, humming tunes, passing the time . . .

It's like I said before Recumbentman - we NEED a 'bad guy' in our personal stories to spice things up a bit, to help us learn stuff. Probably why Eve chose knowledge over la-de-dah Eden life. She wanted to get to know the devil in order to know herself better. And then she shared that with Adam. Wonder what would have happened if she'd kept the apple to herself?

My mother-in-law is a formidable 90-year old, mother of 14 kids! She keeps having bad falls, but has never broken anything, officially blind, she never misses anything.
I wish PYT were still here, because my m-i-l is Indian, as coloured as they come.

AOCA is Associate of the Ontario College of Art (and Associate Degree in fine art...). The sfa refers to what the degree has done for me ... ie; sweet f### all...

Just went over to PYT's personal page and posted a message on the 'Trolls' thread there, inviting him/her/it to come back and defend the total nonsense previously posted here. Rather think this person is too much of a coward to do so. Seems all that person can do is sneer and make nasty comments - not terribly intelligent.

Strange that in PYT's heading it says 'loves to laugh, believes in free speech'. I say this person only likes to snigger, not laugh at all. And as for free speech - well yes! Of course!

But I am convinced that PYT is just a coward, as so many of that ilk are. They just throw out nasty, outrageous comments and have no way of backing themselves up. Except to sneer and call people names.

I agree with you azahar - but I suppose we have to admit that free speech is what PYT did & what we're doing?

We've sort of lost the momentum in this discussion without an opposing viewpoint. It's difficult to triumph in the knowledge of being right when everyone else already agrees with you. I only hope that PYT has read this thread and maybe stopped for a few seconds to think about their attitude to fellow human beings.

I think it is important, too, for others see that it is possible to stand up to such people.

Allow me to get the ball rolling again for you by delving into a subject about which I have almost no interest and inform you all that although it is not in black and white, red and grey squirrels might be interbreedable.

The definition of genus and certainly of species is so vague as to take it without the bounds of true science. It puts it as it were, in the region of science fiction along with all the other miconceptions that have been added to the burdens of sentients on this planet by virtue of the fact they serve to answer a query into knowledge without being proven.

When a science divests itself of unexplored theories masquerading as facts, then the adherents of such theories no longer speak of them as theories. There is a tendency for such adherents to become irate at suggestions that their theory is not in fact a fact.

Obviously I have not followed more than the begining of this thread and a few posts prior to mine so perhaps it may be true that Purdy is a racist. The question it seems, remains a theoretical one answered on the basis that it was a troll. It might have developed into more serious study had the concept of the definition of the distinction between species been explored.

It is for instance accepted "theory as fact" that you (natives of this planet) are all monkeys, yet you have a law prohibiting inter special breeding without a clear legal definition of species.

Has anyone else noticed that apart from the 4 initial postings to ask & then clarify the question, PYT hasn't actually contributed any further to this forum? PYT, is this just a big "playing devil's advocate" joke? Ask an inflammatory, emotive question and see how people respond.... interesting approach.
