It used to be quite a big thing when I was a kid, we called it, "going oot guising" every one joined in back then.
We never had our parents with us, as it was safer in those days, to be out in small groups. We used to go "dooking fir apples" and chase the toffee apple, "a toffee apple dangling from a string"
We had to recite a poem, or sing/dance before we could open up our "goodie bags" for the adults to put fruit or sweeties into it, (money was never used back then)
It used to be good fun, which seems to be lacking in this modern age?

I think the big problem is that the visitors seem to think the game is 'if I don't get a treat, I'll play a trick on you' ie demanding with menaces.
I understood it should be 'will you give me a trick or a treat?'
When we used to get more callers, I had some small smartie boxes filled with macaroni, or some genuine wrapped sweets all in a bag - let the children choose & beware!

PH: NaJoPoMo's effect on My Conversations. This year is better than previous years, with many people keeping their JoPos in one entry. So far it's not flooding my convo list. But I still see new posts highlighted just to find a bookmark indicated someone read it. I get it. People want to show that they're reading the things others are posting and we don't have something like an "upvote" or a "like". But I still get a little disappointed when I click on a new post only to find nothing really there.
N.B. this is a PETTY hate.

Read them a day late - by then the first flush of posts (if any) following the NaJoPoMo thing is through and you can skim the whole thread for any gems.
I don't mind how you read it. But I am posting a new journal each day. If I just have one thread, I'm worried I'll get complacent and think I can miss a day because no one would notice.

Why would you think that? New posts show up regardless of whether they're an entire new entry or just a single new post.

PH of the day: I always get cross with myself when I'm working through a list of things and get distracted (or I just go off at a tangent myself). Then, because I'm unsure of how far I'd got, I start at the other end of the list. Which can surely only cause more confusion and, possibly, mistakes, but I do it every time.

Why not cross out or tick off the things you've done (if it's a paper list) or delete them (if it's on a computer)? That way you know how far you've got through the list when you eventually come back to it.

They're usually in a system or somewhere where I can neither delete nor tick. And if I do have paper or a workable list on the screen, I might have ticked, but I'm still convinced I haven't done it. Or I've done it and not ticked it. Life is so confusing!

Not sure what my problem is, but item 1 on any list is "make list", and then I don't get any further.

Car visors. Either in front or at the side when often I need a bit of each to cover the corner.

PH: When I pour water over ice in my lidded drink tumbler and the ice fuses together such that I can't stick the straw to the bottom.
