H2G2 a dying Community?

Hmmm... is h2g2 a dying mud-wrestling community?
From the 'high' side of 50 I have to say I'm glad to read the entire backlog for a microcosmic view of this Galaxy we are being Guided thru.
Perhaps one thing that has changed:
As one 'researcher' pointed out there seem to be fewer references to the Holy Texts of DNA and to the man himself.
I'm sure some of that is the modern 'silence' that passes for respect of the departed. And it's evident too that many are missing some of the best books ever written. But thanks to many of the people who have posted here, including the newbies most certainly, the Spirit of 70's Science Friction lives on.
And you all thought I was gonna insist we have DNA-Literacy tests for newbies to see how much of the Holy Texts they've actually read? No m'dears, as some wise man must have said, "To copy a seed it must first be watered and allowed to grow. Trust me. Only when it matures and produces flowers and fruit, will you find more seeds. Trust me. And even then you have to take a big bite. Trust me."

To be fair, DNA is dead. Don't turn him into some kind of Diana figure on here...that would just ruin it. And only recently have I been inspired to go and read his books...
VIP - Sorry! I have neither the transport, nor the money But I have promised everyone I shall go to the next one!!!! It's supposedly in July, and that's when my birthday is, so I will *definitely* haul my ass to it But I'm feeling so left out now, so I have my own punishments

>> Actually I thought the books were pretty dull. <<
Fair enough GD, but you have to admit the premise was original, the presentation keenly witty and the improbability of alcohol as a rocket fuel quite heady in an campy nihilist kinda way. At least that's what Marvin tells me. He's not dead. Marvin that is. Can't die. One of the pains of being a kultural ikon I suppose. Just his luck. Ah well.

Wow ! I'm getting better at this Devil's Advocate thing.
Firstly an awful lot of you have been lying about your ages -
Lastly - I'm still here and I said somewhere else that this is the most open, friendly, online community I've ever come across.
I've read through threads advising people on coping with depression, or finding girlfriends, or homesickness, and whilst sometimes it gets a bit coats off and behind the bike-sheds, generally speaking people are extremely tolerant.
The only thing that the society seems not to tolerate - is ignorance - and even there, they are extremely tolerant. I recall some guy posting his (very bad) poetry into peer review, and people explaining that it wasn't the place, and him saying he didn't care about rules, and them saying put it in this place or this place and him being rude in return. It was about a week before everyone just said stuff him, and ignored him. He'd have lasted about 10 minutes where I drink.
Alas, I'm not so tolerant, but hopefully I'm not upsetting anyone too much either - (except Kerr-Avon)

I actually have to say it does amaze me how generally friendly the community is. I've seen some places where people are regularly made to feel unwelcome as a matter of course.

I find that most poetry tends to be very bad, by default.

Not mine. My poetry is good. Which is why I don't let the BBC have it.
And who has been lying about their ages?

'Do Britons *know* how to fight? '
So thats why we often win the boxing(America has about the same amount of top level boxers as us, and you lot have over ten times the population) and consistently win World Judo championships!!!
Silly little Nyssa!!!

"Oh yes he is."
Oh no he isn't. Not yet, anyway - his death scene was set in the far future...
Sorry for the delay in responding; I've been off on an intergalactic cruise in my office.
