"deja vu" is a "je ne sais quoi"...smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

this is the kind of question that should join "what's the meaning of life?!" in the list of "no-no"s me thinks...smiley - steam

or is there no meaning at all in a "deja vu" as it's only remembering that we've seen a place/situation/event before in a dream?!... which kinda pointless really...smiley - biggrin

apart from making my hair turn grey sooner than they should thanks to this thread...smiley - laughsmiley - laugh

yep... "deja vu"="a pointless feeling of having already seen (or been in) a place or/and witnessed an event tho' the person having that impression hasn't seen/been to that place nor have been involved in that particular event before..."

very pointless indeed as it's not even a kind of warning of some sort... i mean what the point if that "deja vu" feeling ONLY happens at the time we're seeing/witnessing something eh?!...smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

Is it 42?

I have heard is said that the feeling of deja vu is in fact caused by one side of the brain acting slightly faster than the other, creating some sort of weird echo effect.

What is cutting-and-pasting?

And who knows what deja vu means?

Now, this may sem an odd question, but I've always wondered what cutting and pasting is.

"cutting and pasting" was a very interesting way of producing newsletters long before the first DTP [the good old days... aaaaaah....]...

You can call me TC

In fact one could philosophise for hours on the subject, not to mention time and its instability - does everything happen all at once and we only get to see it a bit at a time, but sometimes the system has cracks and you get to see a bit twice.

I once read a theory that your mind kids you that it has already seen what it is seeing at the present moment through a kind of short-circuiting of memory and perception or something. It sounded quite plausible at the time.

The echo explanation is slightly more lucid than my stumbling effort. I think I ought to stick to my own language until I can get that right. Rather difficult living abroad though.

Do you get homesick Loup?

Except the second time it's almost, but not quite, completely the same.

yep... heard the "kind of short-circuiting of memory" theory before...

that's ok for some cases when people have a kind of feeling of having already seen something...

but then again... would that really be "deja vu" in these cases?!... as they would not have seen it [whatever they're seeing now] already in the first place?!...smiley - biggrin

mmmmmm.... dangerous grounds there... we're going from the meaning of "deja vu" to the proof of existence of a "deja vu"...smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

of course we would have to prove we exist FIRST...smiley - whistle

i missing some posts here...smiley - laughsmiley - laugh

TC: homesick?!... nope, not anymore...smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrin

everyone: does echo mean "deja entendu"?! or "entendu a nouveau"?!...

can't be a "deja vu" then as it's being repeated NOT already seen/heard/felt BEFORE...smiley - biggrin

[i know that makes sense somehow...smiley - whistle]

I think it's all irrelevant. If it seems to you like you've seen it all before, does it really matter if it hasn't?

BTW, I seem to have set a little ball rolling over at No No No! Light blue touch paper and retire... sorry fellow Thingites!

What all this cutting-and-pasting about then?
