If there has to be a race, it should just be the time between leaving the house and arriving at the end-station in London. From then on starts the separate journey to get to the hotel.

Doesnt HAVE to be a race, but it might be fun to do a consumer test of train vs plane.
Home to Waterloo, then?

Hi Guys
The Final Arrangements for the day are:
If you are coming to the afternoon shenanigans you should meet the Editorial team in the courtyard of Somerset House at 2pm. Mina and Abi will cross you off the RSVP list and relieve you of a tenner, in exchange for which you will be given a voucher for the Evening festivities. There are two options for the afternoon, Abi will be taken the active sorts on a walking tour of the cultural highspots of Alwdych and Temple. Mina will be hosting a board game tournament in a local pub. The nearest tube station to Somerset House is Temple. If you are taking part in the board game marathon, please let Mina know so the pub she is taking you too can reserve some space.
From six pm onwards we will be partying in the downstairs bar at Penderel's oak, a nice pub on High Holborn halfway between Holborn and Chancery Lane Tube stations. There will be a big buffet, a pub quiz and plenty of time to get to chat to your fellow researchers. There are plenty of vegitarian options on the buffet menu.
Please note that if you are coming only to the Evening section, we are not allowed to sell tickets on the door as this could cause the pub to lose their license, which means you will be forced to drink non-alcoholic drinks. So you should come into the bar and search out Abi or Mina who will be no where near the door.
Thanks
Abi

For the record and Luckystar:
I left home at around 8:45, got a bus at around 8:55, reached Schiphol Airport at 9:10(Dutch time).
The train for Brussels left at 9:40, reached Brussels at 12:14.
The Eurostar left Brussels at 13:02 and reached Waterloo at 14:43 (British time, 15:45 Dutch time))
Total travel time say 7 hours, including less than an hour and a half of waitingtime.

*mumble grumble*
I left my hooose at 15.30, 2+1/2 hr drive to airport, 1+1/2 hr waiting for plane, 40 mins flying time, some more time doing passporty stuff, catching trains into London, fighting with ticket machines which
a) do not take £20 notes
b) do not take Northern Irish banknotes, even though they are legal tender
c) will only allow one transaction per card per day
d) tell you to piss off if you've taken more than 30 seconds to exhaust all these options.
so...er... Waterloo at 21.30, but they're an hour behind, which makes
7 hrs total!
I'm intrigued by the extra 2 minutes time difference you have in the Netherlands

And I was complaining about my travelling.
Actually I was complaining as I stupidly decided it was a good Idea to travel down the morning of the meet. It wasn't until the night before that the full horror hit me.
I was going to have to get up at 5:00 ON A SATURDAY
True I did as a bonus get several hours before the meet to look around London, but the unnatural practice of an early start on a Saturday also mean't I was nearly in a coma by 10pm.
