Last night around 20:00 it started to snow and when I woke up it was still snowing but not as heavily up until 8:30. Usually it is quite noisy with the sound of traffic but since it has started to snow it has become more quieter. I hope that it will snow more today. I still have not yet made a , hopefully there will be lots more .

Clear skies and sunshine all day. I slipped and fell on one of the icy paths. I did not get hurt and it was quite embarresing. The only way I could walk safely was to waddle like a duck, and slowly walk. The easiest places to walk on the grassy verges. The top temperature was 2° and the temperatures for tonight are -2°. The lowest temperature at night has been -4°.

Glad you didn't hurt yourself when you slipped over The Thinker Our side roads and pavements are like ice rinks. We (my partner and I) managed to baby-step walk from a to b and back again without slipping over. I'll be over the council offices tomorrow, ask them what they're doing about it, and I bet I won't be the only one.
It's not rocket science - winter = icey weather = gritters needed = organisation of gritting - obviously too simple for Thurrock Council.
Oh, and apparently, we may not get our bins emptied Monday, as the lorries couldn't get out Friday. That info was from my partner. I think it likely they collected Friday's on Saturday. Have to wait and see what happens.

It started to snow over five minutes ago.
Emmilly all the side roads in S.Ockendon have not been gritted and I saw an elderly man fall on the corner of London Road going towards the bus station (train station side).
Thanks for your kind concern and for the information about the bins as I put mine out last night. Mine were not collected today, the last time snow fell in S.Ockendon the bins were not emptied that week but the next week.
I found only the shopping areas in Grays had been gritted.

Hi Katrine,
One of our local councillors (from village) wasn't as lucky as you when he slipped on an icy pavement, he fell on his face and fractured his skull. He's ok, will be out of hospital within the next couple of days. He's Chairman of committee that I work for at Belhus Village Hall, which is how I found out. I'd like to think as he has the council connections he'll get something done about pavements and roads in future, but I won't be holding my breath
Nope, bins not emptied, just as we have 3 big ones, just a bit of a pain putting them out and taking them in every day until they're emptied.
Take care
Emmily

Hi Emmily,
Sorry to hear that your councillor was badly injured. It was dry in Grays all morning but by the time I went back on the 12:35 bus it looked like it had been raining. Then as I got off the bus it started to drizzle very lightly and by half an hour it was raining properly. Then about 16:15 or a bit earlier it snowed for half an hour, then it turned into sleet and then rain. I was out in the snow and I noticed that even the main roads had not been gritted since either Saturaday or Sunday. I also have three bins to put out as well as my neighbours oridnary bin. It is a pain and if they are not emptied by tomorrow, I will have to put them out again.
Best wishes and regards,
Katrine

Ballynac Posted Dec 23, 2009
It's a bright sunny morning here in London. The early fog has cleared and now there's hardly a cloud in the sky. It's chilly though. The current temperature is probably about 2c, but it feels more like minus 4c or 5c.
Here at St Pauls (and in town in general I think), you'd never even know that it had snowed the last few days. But where I live in NW2, there's still lots of snow around. My road is still all white and like a skating rink. I've salted the pavement up to my front door so the guy delivering my Christmas groceries later today (fingers crossed) doesn't break his neck! In gardens, there's still a good 5-6inches of snow lying around and probably will be for some time since it's not really getting above freezing each day and the sun is so low in the sky this time of year.
So even if we don't have more snow between now and then, on Christmas morning when I look out my window it will probably be a white Christmas which is nice for a change!
