he he... I'm on a public computer! Let's see:
-----------------------------
hello all my wonderful friends,
i haven't been able to send out a lot of emails or return a couple of your
phone calls since i have been in the grueling process of moving this past
week. i just wanted to let you know what has been happening with me. i
arrived in houston this past sunday with my brother and met my parents who
were already there since they had to go to a funeral. i have had a
fun-filled (sarcasm) week of apartment shopping, furniture buying, starting
up utilities, etc with the help of my stressed out parents and in-the-way
brother. yes, i cannot say moving into my apartment during two days of a
driving rainstorm was fun but it's over now thank god. i found my apartment
after two days of extensive looking and am very happy with it. it is in the
montrose/museum district of houston, which is where i wanted to live from
the beginning--a smaller complex (14 units) with a great old man,
grandpa-like guy for a landlord, pool and patio area, in an upbeat, young
neighborhood. i have one of the most popular bars in the area a couple of
blocks away which makes me happy--a drink and a "friend" are only a step
away. i met my downstairs neighbor last night, my first night by myself in
the apt., when she came up to complain about the volume of my music. off to
a great start!! well, she's just a nerdy rice student anyway. i think she
felt bad about complaining bc afterward she came upstairs with some s'mores
for me (random).
i have bought some really great furniture, including a comfy futon, in
expectation of lots of people visiting me (hint, hint). i am very happy with
my apartment and am enjoying being on my own, though it's a little strange
at times being as this is the first time i've ever lived by myself. it's
definitely a big, "adult", transition in my life. i wasn't alone for long
though as susan came into town last night for a job interview. i don't think
the job interview was too successful but we had a great time meeting for
lunch and catching up. she is going to be here for the month of sep to find
a job and if she finds one, will stay the whole year. i am going out with
her, her boyfriend brian who lives here, and some other folks tonight for my
first night out in the big city. then, on sunday, marcin is coming for a few
days, which of course i am very excited about. it's nice to have familiar
faces during this phase of moving to houston. i'm not left friendless,
that's for sure!
i have orientation a couple of days next week, then school starts august 26.
i am still in the process of getting a houston landline but will email you
all my number when i get it. until then, call me on my cell phone. i hope to
hear from you all soon!! i am thinking of all of you!
love, stacey
