Gnomon - time to move on

How about something pre-celtic - the triple spiral from Newgrange, Meath, Ireland?

This dates from about 3100 BC.

Or for something more up-to-date, how about the h2g2 logo?

I don't wantt to be a stick in the mud but if you are going to get a tattoo it should be your choice of design.
If you are not sure what design you want, then I don't think you are sure you want a tattoo.
Remember-a tattoo is for life, not just for christmas...smiley - winkeye

I should add that the triple-spiral is the one on the left of that big rock. Its meaning is unknown, but it is often seen as a symbol of life by modern mystics.

I thik you better try to find a "trustworthy" tattoo shop, and have a look at their exhibits book.

How about getting some henna tattoos done first. They don't last that long and you can see how you feel about them without having to go for the permanent option straight away.

Just looking through a book full of flash and deciding on one isn't a good idea. You should have a design in mind first, and then decide on that you want it tattooed.

Thanks for you suggestions. Should have added I have a design in mind but due to my lack of artisty I'm finding it difficult to explain what I want.Does anyone know any good sources for designs (it think the triple spiral on the rock is a little too basic).smiley - smiley

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

There are some tattoo and piercing magazines out there, and no doubt many, many websites. Why not do some Google searches and see what takes your fancy.

I've been thinking about getting one for a long time, but because it's a permanent thing I haven't yet settled on something I feel able to live with for the rest of my life. Don't get a tattoo that doesn't feel 100% right just because you really want one.

Mind you, if they could do small enough lettering I'd have one on the back of my neck that says "Do not boil wash. Do not bleach. Do not spin. Hand wash with care only" smiley - tongueout

I thought about my tattoo for years, and I love it. Its an Hindu/Buddhist Omm. I am thinking about another, but it will be a celtic/tribal of my own design. So no rush, cause I want to make sure I will be as happy about that one as the one I have now.

Though I'd never intended to have a tattoo I impulsively got one done when tattoo shopping with a friend, and I love it. The thing is, my Kokopelli is something that I've loved for years... I wear a ring with him, and have him in different forms all through my home. When I had him put on me it was meant to symbolize a whole bunch of things that I want to keep in my life always... a way of making the committment to keeping the good stuff alive in me, no matter what.

Shop around til you find something that really suits you, or design it yourself. I think you'll like it a lot better that way.

Goshoo, can't you use the international pictograms for that? Not everyone understands English!

And I reckon even fewer people understand the pictograms smiley - winkeye

I am constantly trying to choose between 3 options- a lion's head, a lion cub, and a fairy.
The lion is my zodiac sign, I love cats of all sizes and shapes, the cub is relating to the childish, energetic part of me, and the fairy- feminine and delicate, fantasy creature, a mix of a child and a woman, earth and air.
So if anyone can help ME- I'd be greatful. And it'll go on my left shoulder blade.smiley - smiley That's all I do know....smiley - winkeye

if i were to get one, it would be an ironic anchor on the forearm.

suggestions: a dotted line around your neck, with a scissors sign? an extendable message on your manhood? 'return to sender' on your forehead? a barcode on your arm or on your scalp?

I have a Star Wars rebel alliance symbol tattoed in black on my right shoulder and it kicks ass. I love it totally. The actual shape is a pretty cool one and it just proves what a smiley - geek I am. I got it 6 years ago and I have never regretted it. It was also a conscious personal statement to myself (which is private smiley - tongueout) so it isn't just to be cool.

Just make sure it is the one you like, not something someone else likes.
