I watched Cube the other day and loved it, one of the reasons i watched it was because it was a little different from the norm
as with sliding doors and the truman show, which I also like

* Dogma
* Fear and loathing in Las Vegas
* Lost Highway
* (A Danish movie, the title of which I could tell you, but then they would take this posing off-line, so I tell you the English translation ) In China they eat dogs
* Niktia (The Luc Besson one, not that dreadful US re-make)
more when I think of more...

I *am* rather fond of John Boorman's Seventies fantasy masterpiece Zardoz. Most people pooh pooh it because it has Sean Connery running around in a handlebar moustache and a red nappy. Guess why I like it?

Blues Brothers (greatest one liners of all time such as "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we have got a pack of cigarettes, half a tank of gas it's night and we're wearing dark glasses"), and manages to be a comedy, musical, cops and robbers, retro, car chase, etc.
The Idiots (The first [and only] time that I have seen really rude things on a cinema screen) thoroughly tasteless subject matter and not at all offensive.

Pi
Repo Man
Slaughterhouse 5 (I know, it sounds like a slasher movie, but it isn't)
The City of Lost Children
Brazil
Time Bandits
Twelve Monkeys
(Okay, pretty much anything by Terry Gilliam)
Big Trouble in Little China
Unbreakable
Being John Malkovich
Magnolia
Lost Highway (I know someone else already mentioned it, but it's worth mentioning again.)
In the Mouth of Madness

Apocalypse (sp?) Now... I kept expecting it to lighten up, but things just kept getting darker and darker and more horrible...
Strange Fruit....It's a terrible movie, but I haven't seen any others like it.

When I posted the idea of The Blues Bros and The Idiots as being "different" I was confident but now I wonder. There are, it is said, supposed to be only seven basic plots for cowboy (and all other?) stories, can this really be so. Even if the plot is slightly different, the general feel of the film is likely to be similar. For instance (having seen neither) is Lock Stock... really much different to Reservoir Dogs? Are there actually other films that are really rather similar to The Blues Bros and The Idiots (in the case of The Idiots, I suspect not)?

The Red Violin (also released as Le Violon rouge)
Possibly Samuel L. Jackson's finest film role

I've heard that there are only two plots for a film:
A Man goes on a Journey
A Stranger Comes to Town
