Practicing flirting is a great idea. It is an entertaining and essentially harmless way of passing time, and it does - sometimes - lead on to more. But less often than you would think.

Well, I think I've blown everything now. And I've gotten pretty sure she doesn't fancy me.

She's just one girl, you can't expect to find true love with the first girl you meet. Just give it time, you will eventually find someone. I have to believe this myself so don't contradict me!

I were myself. I didn't know what to say and said some stupid things and in general screwed up and made a fool of myself. I didn't expect much, I just hoped it would at least go better.

She was reading a book by Goethe, I found that a bit impressive. She also knew who he was.

At least you've established that not all girls are boring and stupid. Next step is to learn to relax around girls and just treat them like normal people instead of beings from another planet. If you can make her smile or even better, make her laugh then you're halfway there already.

I have made her laugh several times. Though I don't know if it wasn't more out of politeness. She does have an awful laughter though. I do wish I could relax more around people, If I am in a good mood and relaxed I can actually be funny. But if I am at a party or such I get all tense and such, and I have no chance of saying anything funny.

You can tell a lot about a person from their laugh. I met this girl on holiday once who sounded just like a horse when she laughed. At the beginning we were all in hysterics as well cos we thought she was doing it on purpose, didn't quite know how to react when we found out she wasn't!

Obviously your main problem is that you get very nervous in social situations - you need to learn to relax. Easier said than done I know! Personally I find a few drinks always help but if that's not your style then try to break yourself in gently by going to places where you'll have the chance to talk to people on a one to one basis rather than big groups. I find that's always easier.

Be aware of the differing points of view in this situation. Where you might thinl you're being a fool, she might think you're being a charming sexy beast.

Or she might have a soft spot for fools. One woman's "charming sexy beast" is another woman's "arrogant medallion-man that thinks he's God's gift..."

I remember seeing a biography of Rowan Atkinson and his wife(I'm having trouble finding out who he is married to) was talking about when they first met. She said that he was kind of nervous around women "Which of course was incredibly charming" So is she the only one to think so?
