Dracula is good if you don't expect the kind of 'horror' they dish up for the films. There's no blood dripping all over the place. The horror is 'psychological' - suggested rather than told.

Gone again

"Faith of the Fallen" by Terry Goodkind. Not deep and meaningful: strictly for entertainment - quite good fantasy. Seven or eight out of ten.

Pattern-chaser

I have finished Bram Stoker's Dracula in, wow, exactly three days smiley - wow, and I've just started on "Interview with the Vampire" by Anne Rice smiley - vampire

I remember I read it a couple of years ago, and now that I stumbled upon my battered old paperback, I suddenly wished to read it again smiley - geek I'm suddenly very fascinated with vampires in literature...

I've several on the go at the moment.

Firstly there is James Loewen's "Lies My Teacher Told Me" which I'm reading as part of my trip through alternative and left wing analyses of US history. When I've finished this one I'll be on to some other parts of the Howard Zinn cannon.

Then there is the final part of Tony Benn's parliamentary diaries, "The End of an Era - Diaries 1980-90". Well I've read the five so I might as well finish the series.

And Alan Moore's "V for Vendetta" just for fun.

The Francis Urquhart (spelling?) books by Michael Dobbs - House of Cards, To Play The King, The Final Cut. I saw a bit of House of Cards while visiting my mum, and realised I hadn't read the books for a while.

In praise of Celtica! I've just finished it and it is awesome! smiley - magic

To please Jimmy, I am reading the second book in Tamora Pearce's series. I have to say, I don't like it much - it's too American, the faux-mediaeval thing Americans love in fantasy. Pearce's heroine Alanna spends all her time 'passing' as a boy, and she's more *boy* than many real boys I know. She sneers at every girl she meets, for one thing, because they're dainty girly-girls or because she resents that her 'fellows' are growing up and at - 16-18, getting interested in these girls (as you do.) Alanna resents losing their attention. I don't like her. She wants to be a warrior - well, three cheers. She doesn't help the cause of women/girls, by passing as a (very sexist, nasty) *boy* boy.smiley - grr

The Alanna books used to be my very favourite - I could just about recite the first book smiley - winkeye

Just finished 'The Truth' (Prachett) - worked my way through every single Discworld book up to this, and now I can't find Theif of Time! I know my brother has it somewhere, but his room's more of a bomb site than mine - I'd be lucky to find anything in there!

The Ghost of Polidari

Sprout Mask Replica by Rankin - not his best - bit too scatterlogical, but okay.
