The Songlines
For once I am reading quite slowly - usually I just speed-read a book in a day or two - but this one I'm allowing to take time - I need to do some thinking while reading it - oops! That didn't come out as I had intended - not that I shut off my brain while reading or anything - oh drat! I'll just refrain from explaining, shall I?

Going for the double-header of Peter Hoeg's 'Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow' and Ted Hughes 'Birthday Letters' (which is brilliant).

I am persisting with the Alanna books, it's just that Alanna herself annoys me a lot!
I know I'd have loved the Alanna books if I'd read them when I was 14 or so.

'The Name of the Rose' by Umberto Eco, for the second time. Great story, great characters, but the constant Latin etc. quotes are distracting.
'The Dark Valley: A Panorama of the 1930's' by Piers Brendon. Good style, easy to read.
'The Balkans' by Misha Glenny. A long-term project.
'I, Claudius' by Robert Graves, for the 3rd (?) time. Go out and get this book.
Blackadder script book. Makes me as happy as a Frenchman who's just invented a pair of self-removing trousers

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
