I'm one of those people who has several books on the go at the same time. I have no trouble at all keeping the storylines straight, as the books are so different. I'm just finishing 'Poems and Stories' by J. R. R. Tolkien, as well as working my way through Dante's Divine Comedy and Cornwell's 'Sharpe's Tiger'.

Hipopotamus by Stephen Fry. Amazing that back home I had never encountered any of his work and here in Canada the local library has so far furnished both this and Making History without even needing to look. Previously I read High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, which was a lot less rude.

On the subject of Stephen Fry's books, try 'The Liar' - it's seriously weird. All works of fiction are 'lies' by definition, but 'true' from the point of view of the people involved in the story. After I read 'The Liar', I found myself wondering whether any of it was 'true'.

Currently: The Mad Ship (book two in the Liveship Traders trilogy) by Robin Hobb.
I'm also reading a bit of Song of Homana by Jennifer Roberson when I've temporarily misplaced the Mad Ship book.

The Bang-Bang Club by Greg Marinovich and Joao Silva - it's the story of the four news photographers (the two authors plus Ken Oosterbrook and Kevin Carter) who covered South Africa in the early nineties, during the dismantling of apartheid. Powerful stuff, and extraordinary photographs.

just about to start "The Rape of Nanking", just finished Stephen King's "It", have a book of poetry by Christina Rosetti floating about and am reading a book called "Snow Country" by a Japanese author whose name escapes me just at the moment. Yep, I'm the sort to read many many books at once too!

I am reading Roy Porter's Enlightenment - which is a very accessible and witty look at 18th century intellectual and scientific thought.
Surprisingly for an academic tome, it has me laughing aloud!
