Questions To While Away the Hours ......

If you want to mix oil and water you can do it by adding soap or a detergent. I've never heard of salad dressing mix before, but it sounds vile so therefore it must have soap in it. And ground up septic bunions

Salad dressing mix is just spices... when my mother makes homemade Italian dressing, she mixes vinegar, water, olive oil, and flavorful things like oregano, basil, and parmesan cheese. If you try to mix it up in a bottle, it doesn't mix. No matter how hard you shake it, a minute after you put it down it will all be separated again. Putting the oil and vinegar on the salad separately without trying to mix them beforehand will probably ensure that they both get distributed throughout the lettuce. I'll have to try that...

Colours get a little complex when you use more than the beginner's kit. The bright primary colour yellow is a pure colour that cannot be mixed from others, and is well-represented by lemons, hence the pure colour 'lemon yellow'. However, most people think of pure yellow as cadmium yellow, which is not a primary colour because it has red added. Hence, lemons are actually lemon, yellow being an umbrella term.
Incidentally, red is not a primary colour either. Bright red has some yellow in it- hence it is a type of orange. The pure colour is crimson, which cannot be mixed. That's why you can't make a proper, balanced purple from 'red' and blue- and why white added to red goes salmon rather than magenta.

Sorry. I can get a bit involved with my subject at times.
(Oh! My darling Subject! But what if your wife should find out?)

Doesn't which colours are primary depend on which colour model you go for?

I always interpreted them as colours which can't be mixed from any others: lemon yellow, crimson and ultramarine. (NOT green; why anyone should think it is has puzzled me for years.)Any colour which is mixed from a primary and other colour is secondary.

Depends on what method you use to make the colour, whether reflective or projective. When mixing pigments in things such as paint then yellow is primary, but when using TV's or computer monitors where light is projected then Green can be used with Blue and Red (and black/white/grey) to make any colour (including lemon yellow).

I always refer to things in an artistic sense, since that's the way I'm geared. This is similar to the Colour & Perception discussion of the scientific/artistic ideas of hot and cold colours, which are opposite.
I will probably never understand how light pigmentation works, just as some people are perplexed by how to make brown. The world needs us all, I'm sure.

Why is it that in sports news, your favourite team gets less coverage than everybody else's?

No, but have you ever heard of UNION BERLIN? Football (the soccer variety, if you're from the US).

What I find is that the coverage of sports in News papers depends on what city you are closest to. In football (the US kind) I like the Panthers but since I work in NYC all the newspaper coverage is for the NY teams.
Key: Complain about this post
