Yeah... you can still find variations on the theme, but the original was phenomenal. Also, some of the new versions are probably laden with malware.

I used to have a hamster called rushin, because he was a rushing Russian Hamster
Do you think people are not sticking around because they are finding alot of the group's are no longer used.

what the world needs is more dancing Ham[p]sters I've got one, in the front room.... he dances the la-cocoratcha.... err, or whatever its called.... and he dances.... he has a pair of maracas... seriously... currently he's sitting next to eddie, the sheep skull.... sadly eddie doesn't dance anymore, probably due to his lack of legs...

Was it Burt Bacherach who sang:
What the needs now are hamsters, dancing hamsters
It's the only thing that there's just too little of

Surely what we need is more people at http://h2g2.com

Burt Bacharach sang "A House is not a home," "Walk on by, and "Make it easy on yourself," but I can't find "What the world needs now" in versions by himself.

Not me. Too old for that crap.
In fact if you hadn't said it was Friday I wouldna known.
Nope, ever since they repealed the Lords Day Act and allowed
the shops and malls to open on Sundays one day is pretty much
like any other. Bars and pubs and gambling casinos running 24/7.
As to the question of the OP, I'd like to say that our depleted
numbers has a couple of positive effects. First, we get to know
each other better, a little more intimately as it were (I say that
in the purely social meaning of intimacy), and we actually begin
to remember names and who's who and what they believe and
where they're from and lots of other stuff that used to get lost
in the early flashmobs of h2g2.
And now I've forgotten what the second thing was.
And that's a good thing.

If h2g2 is not being used so much, will it be in danger of being closed down?

Intimately you say?
*flutters eyelashes*
Well, long gone seem teh days when I almost couldn't get to sleep, circa 2 AM, because soem threads were still moving so fast and people were posting, and there were replys to make... to some extent, for me, at least, twitter has taken over the role of preventing me from going to bed Mind, no bad thing, perhaps, in some ways, technology can be disruptive to other things, in some ways; E.G., my netbook died, a few weeks back, since which time I've read, in a fortnight, about as many books as I have read for the whole of the year so far already seems to have had the afect of improving my concentration, in general, somewhat
Mind, even last night, twitter went a bit dull, no one was wsaying much on fetlife earlier.... so I actually made it into bed at a reasonable time

I can reassure people that h2g2 has no danger of ceasing to exist. We have thousands of readers each day reading The Guide. These forums are an adjunct, ie only a part of what The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy really is.
If you want to be involved in this just take some time to write an Edited Entry and be immortalised through your work. I'd like to see a few more Entries on local interests. *writes a memo to self to do the same*

I is doing it I've got one going on Leighton Denny and I've also asked to take one out of the flea market. Do I wait for an answer from the flea market or do I just get cracking with it?

I was all set to congratulate Towelroad for doing a gudie entry on Renaissance composer John Bull
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Bull_(composer),
but that turns out not to be the John Bull in jwf's link.
[Of course, the Guide seems unbalanced when an undisputedly great composer like Joseph Haydn has no edited entry, while comparatively lesser composers are well-represented here. In the meantime, there's my *unedited* entry on Haydn

The situation could be remedied if you put your Entry into Peer Review
I think sometimes people might contemplate an Entry but think someone else has bagged the topic if there is an unedited version around - I noticed there is a partial Entry about Paul Dirac, for example, that never made it into Peer Review or even the Flea Market, but now that the author has ed I don't think they would mind if someone else took on the subject instead...

One of these days I'll find a round tuit and get back to fleshing out my proton therapy entry.
I've got it outlined and I know most of the details in my head from personal experience. I just have a few technical things to sort and see what has changed in the last... what!? Has it been a decade?
No... it's been a decade since my surgery. I think my proton sessions were two years later.
Anyways, I need to find out if they've gone to the scanning beam (like a cathode ray) that my radio-oncologist mentioned as the next step.
Key: Complain about this post
