Not being able to eat what I want, when I want, without putting on weight, that makes me feel old as I used to eat cakes by the dozen and was stick thin, but now one cake will go straight where I don't want it too

Going to another room and not knowing what you went there for isn't necessarily a sign of old age, or even of imminent dementia. In my case, it's a symptom of MS which falls under the blanket heading of 'cognitive problems'. On a bad day I can get up from my chair in the front room, walk to the door (a distance of about 12 feet) and forget what I got up for. It doesn't make me feel old, just frustrated.

...when my kids say stuff like, "Were you alive when...?"

odd that this is the case, but the older you get, the more things you're scared of. the more you've lived the more you realize that things can come back and bite you. pain hurts. that's why we get scared.

Waking up feeling like you've pulled every muscle in your body after a particularly strenuous bout of.....shopping! I kid you not.

Becoming older seems , to me, to be about becoming sensible! There was a time when I always dressed so beautifully. I still dress very smartly but I now go for comfort and utility(most of the time anyway!).
I care about people, which I believe comes with age.
I see the sorrows in life.
I think about my lost family. When one is young, one assumes that the family will just go on and on.
I can speak out, or dress up looking like a bag lady(thick scarves, hat, and gloves) and not care.
But I creak, and groan, and need my sleep!! Going to bed is wonderful-because I can stretch out and sleep!
Ah, the joys of getting older and wiser.

Older and more stupid in my case
And as for stretching out in bed You don't have a wussy 4 year-old who insists on getting into bed between you and hubby in the wee small hours and lying on *your* pillow thus pushing me even further to the side. (no wonder my mattress sinks on my side
)

Oh magwitch treasure those days, you will miss your four year old when he is all grown up and won't even hug.

Not if litluns only four. I know a thing or two about the back though. In fact when I stretch out in bed the creaks and groans are terrifying and the mattress makes a bit a racket as well.

I know at 41 I'm not 'that' old (hell, I don't even feel - in my head - 31) It's just when you walk up the stairs and both your knees creak. And , of course when your eldest son is taller than you! (Well, I am only 4'11" so he'd have to be a very small 12 year-old)

Cookiecate Posted Feb 1, 2007
I know that feeling, but don't you secretly love the idea of having a big tall son who has to do as he is told cos you are his mum. My hubs is well over six foot and his little old mum frightens him to death.

Hi magwitch.
When I mentioned stretching out in my bed, I was meaning that bed without sex is great!! I have a double bed, no man, and it is sheer bliss going to bed to just s-t-r-e-t-c-h. But that comes from being older too I guess!

Malabarista - now with added pony Posted Feb 1, 2007
Nah, same here, double bed, no man, but a big pile of blankets and duvets and sheepskins and if I suddenly decide to sleep sideways or upside-down or to lie diagonally across it, nobody protests!

I was going to post something here, but now I've forgotten what it was...
First it's names that go, then it's faces. Then you forget to do up your zip after you've been to the toilet. Finally, you forget to unzip before you go to the toilet.
