Hi I am cookiecate

Cookiecate because I love to cook and my name is Catherine. I wish I had called myself Cat donkeys years ago but it was Kate so I went along with cookiecate.

I lived in the Caribbean for about one year, but I am happy to say that I am back in England now and living in beautiful Cumbria. I am English/Scot by birth but I have lived outside England for about 12 years in the Caribbean and America.

I have three children, a daughter who is gorgeous, petite and posh. My eldest son is a musician he lived in New York until recently and had a brilliant life there. He has played with many famous groups and is one great story teller, but he is a great bloke. My youngest son I have not seen for years. He went off to live with his dad. I couldn't make him stop stealing cars and getting into drugs.

Last year my daughter told me that I was a grand ma. My youngest son and his girlfriend had Safia a beautiful little girl. I did not get into contact with my son but a few days ago I managed to get his phone number and rang him.

He was over the moon and had missed his mum big time. I looks after his dad who is now disabled with loads of problems brought about by alcoholism including diabetes.

My son sounds like a really nice bloke and I encouraged him to do some mentoring with young people leaving the prison service. He has been there and understands their problems better than any social worker who learned it all from books.

I was happy to find that I felt no animosity towards my ex husband whatsoever, I just felt sorry for my son who has to put up with this very sick man, sick mentally and physically.

I am proud of my children because although I loved them I was a useless and shallow mother. I became an alcoholic and they grew into great human beings by themselves. They are mixed race and great to look at and apart from their sense of humour they fortunately don't take after either me or their father.

As I look back I see the moment when things went wrong and I often wish for one more chance and I know I would do it right next time.

I have cooked for a living but my greatest enjoyment of all is working with the mad the bad and the sad. Mental illness, brain damage, young offenders I have worked with them all. People with challenging behaviour, people in secure mental health units all kinds of folk. Some survived others did not.

Many of the youngsters I worked with became patients in mental health units, some of them went on into secure units either for their own safety or the safety of others.

Although I am not religeous, I believe in people. I am not afraid to go to hell because I have been there many times. I know there are a lot of people who have been to hell and back. We are usually a little better for it. We have empathy and understand a person when they are down. We are not judgemental, cos maybe we have been there ourselves.

I have never met anyone who has done anyting so bad that I cannot deal with it. Once I worked with a young girl who had beaten an old lady nearly to death for her purse. I had to spend a great deal of time with this girl before she went to court. Many people refused and said they could not be civil to her. I was civil, we talked and I found no regret in that young girl. She believed that life owed her something, she had been a victim herself but I have an idea that little lady was just bad.

Well, I think that many people out there need someone to talk to. You will never see me (hopefully) yikes and I will never judge you. If you feel like chatting feel free.

Love and best wishes Cookiecate.
