A Conversation for Role Playing: The Last Voyage of the Mary Celeste

Private conversation between Mac and Spiny

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook)

Garius Lupus may have made this redundant by sending the gillmen off so quickly. My idea was that newcomers could be given Gillmen parts to play. I feel that now that the cook's cover is blown, he'd not want to operate alone anymore, so there would be a few gillmen around helping him out. They could just be tailing the ship and trying to stay out of sight. I think if GL controls all the Gillmen, it's less realistic than them being a force in their own right.

But I'm willing to work alone for a bit longer if you and GL don't agree.

What do you think?

It could work, if there are players who want to take gillman roles. But not too many or this becomes "The Gillman Game." Mustn't upset the balance. For this same reason I regected an old idea I had when I first outlined the game. I thought we could get more players into the game if I had a pirate ship come along side. But it wouldn't have worked, too many pirate characters would dominate and pretty much squash all the other players.

If you have friends who want to enter as gillmen that's up to GL. A couple would hurt, IMHO.

SPINY (aka Ship's Cook)

No one in mind, really. I just thought there might be some of the lurking people who'd like to get in on the action. It was just a thought - thanks for considering it.

smiley - yawn Logging off now - gone midnight here (still at work for gawd's sake!)

Garius Lupus

Actually, it's probably a moot point, since I don't know of anyone that I really want to ask to be involved at this point. There are two who would be fine at this sort of thing, and I invited them to play roles originally, but they couldn't because of upcoming holidays. They have each read at least one character description, though, so I don't think I would want them to take on a role now. And I think it would be difficult for a newcomer to start now. First because it would take a little while to come up to speed and second because they would feel ripped off, not having participated from the beginning. (neither of these applied to Mac, of course smiley - winkeye) I guess I don't really want to have any new players at this stage.

I sent off the gillmen because the longboat was being rowed to the MC and it was going to be hard to maintain continuity. It would be fine for you to have some of them trailing along behind to lend a hand when you need them.
