Plans for the H2G2 Movie
R K1024-T Posted Jan 9, 2001
I think an Actor who could do quite well as Arthur would be Australian Sam Neill. Did anyone see him in Jurassic Park, Bicentennial Man, or The Dish? I swear, he could not only do the accent easily, but his best style is just of an ordinary person trapped in weird circumnstances.

Hunter, who is rarely on H2G2 anymore. Posted Jan 9, 2001

The more I hear that phrase, the more I think Hugh Laurie...

[URL removed by moderator] for information on Hugh Laurie.
Douglas Adams himself is keen for Laurie to play Dent.

But naturally, being British, Equity (US) will only allow him to be cast as a bad guy...

If you mean Craig Charles aka Dave Lister, he's not tall enough & I never had Zaphod down as a Scouser!!!

Actually I think Carrey *is* that bad in Pet Detective. And even worse playing exactly the same part in every other film he's been in.

Jim Carrey has never been considered for the role of Arthur. He is chief favourite for Zaphod, however, and has been for over 2 years now; although I couldn't say whether or not he's signed up.

Never been considered for the role of Arthur... Really?
I wholeheartedly wish you're right! I don't claim any
major insight to Hollywood, so I hope what I heard was
totally wrong
Cheers,
Ariadni

Yeah, Jim Carrey as Zaphod, I reckon that's work actually - he'd be marginally better than Mark Wing-Davey (don't get me wrong - his voice is PERFECT on the radio, but the image, hmm, no!!). I also heard that Hugh Laurie is the best bet for Arthur, which would be pretty good too I think, not a bad match! But the voice of the book, I have no idea! Is there an official site for the movie where we can find out more?

John Cleese for the Book and Stephen Fry for Slartibartfast, Robin Williams, Johnny Depp or that guy from the Full Monty for Ford Prefect. Ruby Wax IS a telephone sanitiser but WHO is going to be Marvin????

Actually I think that Woody Allen is perfect for Marvin character-wise I mean (neurotic, psychotic, depressing, etc.) the only thing is I don't think I can picture Marvin looking like that!
Is there a younger, more polished a bit more neutral and clinical version of Woody Allen anywhere out there in the acting business?

If there is/are website[s] with casting info, it'll be rumours. Jim Carrey for Zaphod, Hugh Laurie for Arthur. Source=Douglas Adams.

Why not make Janeane Garafallo Marvin? She is neurotic, depressind, and can pull off a male voice...
...though I could never tell if Marvin was really male. Has anyone checked? If not Marvin, could Janeane be Trillian?

I know Ms.Garrofolo may take after the Trillian we all know and love from the books, but a non-blonde leading lady in a Hollywood film?
As for a female Marvin(a?) hmmmn...interesting...

If it must be a blonde *sigh* how about that woman who played Laura on THE BRITTIS EMPIRE? And what would be so wrong with a female Marvin? Since we know they (hollywood) are bound to make some drastic changes to the story, why not one, possible useful, change?
