Intriguing suggestion...

Opening up the proverbial can of worms (or possibly the bag of rats) the thought of a female Marvin enters my mind again... Hattie Hayridge anybody?

Jim Carrey, would in my opinion be a bad choice for the Arthur Dent character. How about the original chap who played him on the TV series in the UK?
Sorry, I cannot remember his name just this moment.

If the original cast cannot be recalled (from the TV series) (probably too old now smiley - smiley) Why not let some new talent through?

I agree with the knotty problem of who would replace the late-great Peter Jones as "the book".

Apart from this entry, I have not read anything about a h2g2 film. Where did the rumour start?

A bit of a cult film it would be, for sure. Would the humour travel? Would the dolphins like it? Can one actually make a pan galactic gargle blaster when Janx Spirit is so hard to come by?

These questions need answers. And who is going to give them?

(wobbles slightly and goes to lie down in a darkened room. That's better)

Purple Moose - He comes, he goes. But mainly the latter...

I heard the rumour that Jim Carrey was playing Zaphod!
I'm confused!

Jim Carrey playing any part, except maybe one of the cops, sounds like bad news, but it's Disney's money...*sighs* Memories of Judge Dredd anyone???

Jim Carey? Or (worse?) Robin Williams? Take that back for my Canadian buddy, Jim might actually do all right here , but not as A. Dent. A Vogon perhaps, or an entertainer from the Restaurant at the End of the Universe (just go to Las Vegas if you need more material here)?

Judge dredd was so dreadful I remember that I have seen it but I cannot remember anything about it except that it was so dreadful it has become pushed way back into some deeply buried, barely firing damaged synapse inside some part of the reptilian section of my brain.

My prediction is that if this is a Disney/Hollywood venture-drivel exercise made to satisfy the lowest common denominator and sell as much merchandise as possible and tickets on the first week before everyone forgets it, without involving too many lawyers and legal/commercial expenses or stimulating anyones mind or involving any risky creative genius - It will disappoint everyone who has ever read the book (perhaps read anything without pictures in it), and could be just another emetic "screenplay". Might win an Oscar though in that case.

I really hope Douglas Adams is in control of the creativity here - He has lots of it to go around. Sort of like the messiah comes to tinsel town.

Exactly why it wont happen - as for a roll for Carrey, the rumours are so strong he probably will be in there somewhere...never thought of it that way but I think as Max Quardlepleen (the Host at The Restaraunt...) he could actually do quite well...

I don't _hate_ the man, just think he's best suited to a small niche of rolls, of which Max is probably the only one in a Hitch-Hiker's movie...

Personally, I'd like to see Mike Myers of Austin Powers fame as Ford, and I'm sure John Cleese would make a brilliant Authur. As for Zaphod, I'm not entirely sure...whoever it is I hope they do a better job of giving him two heads than the old series did, hehe. How could I forget Marvin? If it's sutably big-bugetted, they could computer animate him, and the voice-over could be anyone depressed enough.

I HAVE RETURNED!!!

Whew, what a rush. Anyway, I want to see Christopher Walken as Marvin. He's earie, depressing, oddly-logical, and absolutly purfect.

Let's have Garrisson Keeler as the voice of the book.

Jim Carrey as Arthur Dent is a travesty. I understand the need for star power, but most people who have read the series will most likely balk at the casting of major Hollywood actors in ANY of the roles this movie will have. An ideal choice form Arthur Dent would be Craig Ferguson. For those of you who dont have a bell ringing with that name might recognise him as the office manager on the ABC series, "The Drew Carey Show." His british wit and comic delivery are perfect for the character. He is not just an actor, he is also a comedian, and he recently wrote, produced, and starred in a film called "Saving Grace," a very funny story that should not be missed. So lets put the word out, and lets have a few back regarding this guy. What do you think?.

Both Erik Idle and John Cleese are too old to play any large role. What are they, about 65-70 now? Gettin up there. I doubt they'll even have the strength to work for several hours in a row without a nap in the middle. Anyhow, I can see them in cameo roles, but niether of them is young enough to play a major role. Think about it.

I think Patrick Stewart would make a pretty good Slartibartfarst myself.

btw, can anyone else just perfectly impagine the mice flying around in their little seats on the big screen? That'd be hilarious...

Who would be the mice? And let's have Christopher Walken as Slartibartfast. Or Hotblack Desiato.

Ooooh, Walken would make a great hotblack . . . he's got that great stare that seems so blank, and eerie . . . perfect.

Hi! It's me again- the pain!... I find your suggestion of H. Grant incredibly interesting-tho I doubt it if he'll ever have sex in the sky. And with whom, may I ask? Maybe... well, Katherine Zeta Jones sounds like a great Fenchurch, doesn't she? smiley - winkeye
P.s.- My offer was reffered to Rogue and anybody else! Cheers! smiley - bubbly E
