Introduction to York

This is the city where I now live. It is in the North-East of England and about half way up or down, Britian.
It thrives on history and indeed has sold the Viking theme ride idea to the world.
It has one of the most complete, and impressive, circling city walls. This is an impressive walk on its own.
It has one of (if not the) largest gothic cathederal in Europe; the Minster.
It was a once-vital major station on the Great North Eastern Railways. The Railway Museum now dominates.
It has a premier racecourse.
It has three major confectionery manufacturers in the city, Nestl (Rowntree Mackintosh), Terry's of York and a division of Trebor Bassett.
It has been known to flood when the major river, the Ouse tries to wash back into the minor river, the Foss.

The nearest areas of industry are Leeds and Bradford to the west, Hull to the east and Middlesbrough (and Newcastle beyond) far to the north.

In recent years, many a happy visitor has seen what a great place this is and has simply moved here! Traffic jams were an unknown horror but plague us now as elsewhere. Despite this, York is a small but thriving city. I consider it a great place to live.

Well, here we are within the empire of Auntie. I think this MAY bode well for the future. Come on Moderators, do your stuff! :-)
