Any idea what was removed and why?
I always get very nervous when the mods invade this particular forum.

Wasn't me...

I thought the word translated as 'person who causes harm by potions and charms' rather like similar words in several languages.
Which in medieval times definitely was going to be equated with the medieval version of the word witch.
But it's a long time since I did the research, I got bored with the arguments.
I just wish modern wiccany types had chosen a different word to describe themselves, it would have saved a lot of hassle. But, like the Satanists who keep telling everyone that they have nothing to do with the Christian Satan, they just couldn't resist the satisfaction of persecution...

Hello all,
Mikey2 here, feeling slightly miffed that my recent posting, my best yet, I thought, has been removed. I've checked the house rules and can't think of a reason why it should be removed. It was a totally awesome testimony of a pagan turned christian...you'd have loved it, Math. O well, hopefully once its been referred to the powers that be, they'll reinstate it. I must have inadvertently expressed a non-BBC point of view. Scarey.

Did you reply to the moderation email? It won't be referred otherwise.
And on a previous topic, there is a (much villified) reconstruction of Egyptian history that places Akhnaton in the 9th century BCE. The Egyptian royal family had connections by marriage with the Mitannian royal family (in northwest Persia - homeland of the Medes), and Atenism could be derived from an early form of Zoroastrianism, which seems to be the seedbed of monotheism.

Hi mikey2
The powers-that-be are pretty hot on copyright. They don't seem to mind quoting, but wholesale cutting and pasting they sometimes get upset with.
I'm sure no-one here is cowardly enough to yikes! a post and not then step forwards to say why.
I do love these exception tales that Christians put forwards for pagans 'turning back to the light'. If they ever came to a pagan moot or conference they would find that the majority of the attendees are christians who have turned pagan, but we don't crow about that as conversion is not our thing.
F'rinstance I was a catholic, and I'm still recovering
Why don't you assemble a summary of the piece for us. Interpretation is always allowed.
Blessings,
Matholwch .

Who said anything about wholesale cutting and pasting...?
<>
I'm looking for a magpie who stole my jewel of a posting!
<>
What does that mean? It's just a label isn't it?
<>
I may do that soon, not much spare time right now, I'll be back.
Take care

Hi mikey2
Forgive my assumption about cutting and pasting but it is a common mistake that I have seen the Mod's drop on.
Being a catholic in Britain is far more than a label. I was a catholic from a Catholic family. If you're not one it's hard to imagine the almost tribal nature of catholic families.
For the best part of two hundred years in Britain catholics were despised and legislated against, denied access to Parliament and many other parts of the body politic and the economy.
Even after the legislation changed in the 19th century catholics were still treated with suspicion and prejudice. So the families looked inwards and formed their own closed society. Much as many asian families in Britain have done nowadays.
I may no longer be Catholic by religious choice, but I will always be catholic.
Blessings,
Matholwch .

Hi mikey2 ,
Other than being a subjective personal testimony what does this actually prove?

Hi Math
It doesn't prove anything. But anyone hearing such a story must decide for themselves if the testimony is reliable, and if so, what implications it has for their worldview or lifestyle.

Frankly I think that testimony was pure attention seeking, sorry.

fiction. for people to believe in a god in this modern age, or to be able to, makes my mind boggle. i cannot see how the intelligentia of this world can believe in a god or gods! i just cannot understand how or why. and not believing makes me feel so superior, so much wiser, so happy, so .....god-like!!

Sunbeamno:
I think that's a great attitude! See how you have no need to create imaginary friends to fill that void in your soul? When you realise that to all intents and purposes, you are as godlike as it gets, the clouds start to part and you develop a clarity of perception that is completely unavailable to the deluded or defective.

SUNBEAMNO Posted Oct 13, 2007
a void! now thats novel.meaning an empty space. not possible.no room in my being. a soul! you mean the part of the brain which makes you think kind, caring thoughts, compassion and love etc. or the imaginary organ near the heart? jesus! you will be saying i cant walk on water next. god only knows how i could be so superior and right. hey ho....
