Hi Albaus
"That, of course, would preclude the whole point of religion, since there would be no attempt at controlling other people's opinions."
Don't tar all religions with the same brush mate There are a few that actively encourage people to come to their own conclusions y'know?
"Like I said, people can believe what they like, so long as they aren't trying to peddle it to me."
Point taken... now I have this little leaflet
Blessings,
Matholwch .

Apparently the upstart Dawkins thread is attempting to beat the ol' God thread in terms of being the longest pointless and inconclusive debate thread on h2g2 ... not sure why. Does size really matter?

Hmmm... Dawkins? Pointless?
Yeah I'll go for that. This eminent mind has spent years and typed countless words railing against God to what effect? Diddley-squat really.
All he has done is to further polarise a rather moribund debate only taken as important by a few rabid theologians and atheists.
I'm pretty sure he could have done something far more useful with his undoubted talents.
To save time here is Dawkins vs. me:
Prove it!
Can't/Shan't/Won't!
You disprove it!
Can't/Shan't/Won't!
[repeat until bored]
Gee that was fun...
Blessings,

Dawkins is a fabulous writer, and I thoroughly recommend 'The Ancestor's Tale', it's brilliant. No intention of reading TGD though.

I've had The Ancestor's Tale on my bedtable for months now ... Nog read it recently and says it's fab.
My comment about 'pointless and inconclusive debate threads' wasn't really directed at any one thread in particular. Just to say that this is what they end up being, those that try to debate religion, belief systems, etc.
Nice to see you again Pedro. Gosh, bit like homecoming week here, innit?
*waves to everyone else*

Nice to see you too az.
TGD thread has stolen this one's thunder rather. Oh well, for eternal bickering, there's nothing like religion.

This is very true Pedro; there's nothing in this world that provokes more conflict than religion. My god is better than your god, or even my non god is better than your god.
The sooner we get rid of it altogether the better for humanity to sit down with one another and work out some fundamental principles as to how we can all best get on with each, without recourse to gods or non gods the better chance for fewer wars, real or virtual.

Well, only because they maybe thought that thread was saying anything different. And it's now more *on top* ...
Funny thing about this thread, the ol' God Thread ... as most of us call it. It just went on for so long, and it was the time when many hootooers met for the first time, to either become friends or enemies...
It was a real 'time and place' thread, which I don't think the recent Dawkins thread can hope to ever recreate, although it has its own merits. And which also doesn't mean the ol' God Thread is dead, just that people have chosen to post comments elsewhere.
This is kinda my 'home base' thread on hootoo ...

Simulpost with Effers... over here on the God thread it behoves one not to diss all gods. Because, well you don't really know, right?
And neither does anyone else.
