I'd love some anti coffee. I'm so tired, despite it being the middle of the afternoon...
& as it happens, I did bring some donuts. I did a lot of baking this afternoon, and there's also some fruit cake which I made from a h2g2 recipe that I'm editing...
I was in the newsagent yesterday and saw the official windows xp magazine with service pack 1 on a cover disk; perhaps that's available in the US as well...

I have an interesting problem. I bought another 512MB of ram for my main computer and it want's not to boot. I hear that the pagefile in windows needs to be adjusted to make the box work with anything over 512MB. I have wanted to run a gig of ram for many many years... I *want* more MB of rams than Mhz of processor ticks.
I am considering either ditching windows alltogether and running the SuSE dist of Linux or dual booting linux and XP or Win2K (just to run a game or two). I have the SuSE discs allready, I would need to purchase XP or W2K. While I hae legitimate copies of Win98 I did not pay for them. I have trouble paying for the M$ OS.

Ooo, I'll have some of that cake please. I have inside information that it is rather good. How did the RL baking of it go?

brilliantly. The cake rose nicely, it looked good, the fruit didn't sink, and it was very easy to make. It tasted yummy, too...
Help yourself

Oooo... so many people! Hi all!
*happy little dance*
I realized that the empty gif can be used for those researcher smilies created in tables (with the help of Twinkle's smiley generator)...
...I managed to make my soppy smiley browser-safe! Well, at least in Opera, IE and Netscape...

Ack... I just looked out my window and realized that I cannot see Antelope Island on the Southern shore of the Great Salt Lake. This is more or less a mountain that is surrounded by about water no more than 24 inches deep. The smog from teh valley is completely obscuring the island. I also cannot see but a vuage outline of the Wasatch mountains to the north... I think that this valley needs to learn how to be less polluting.

Hi Titania
BTW, Amy, Andy's just started a PhD at Leeds, kind of*
I'm going to have a nap for a couple of hours and then see if I have the strength to attack the case study we have to do for one of my courses...
*kind of' for reasons too complicated to go into here; suffice to say that I hope it won't be 'kind of' for much longer...

Is mercury still retrograde? My email is still unfixed and the problem is taxing the techies . And the Uni's telephone system is down .
The Antmobile is fixed though .

Seeing the fruit reminded me. May I try a slice, please?
No doubt I shall get yelled at, but I really do hope for snow. It is such a rarity in Surrey these days.
I shall have to get Lizzy to let me know when it falls in Hampshire so that I can nip over the Hog's Back to make snowmen.
How's the antmobile, Amy?

Marv -
I'm just getting a new system and I'm going to dual boot XP and SuSE Linux, I've partioned my Harddrives so XP has about 5 GB for the OS and everything else is available to either XP or Linux. Linux is going to be installed on it's own separate 40 GB drive.
Can't wait.

Loved every minute of the adventure... still haven't sorted the credits but am bound to love them too... trip though the forrest seems to have made cold worse, so am going to retire to a guest room, if that's allright and sleep it off. Getting shuck of these clothes would seem like a good idea too.
Koff Koff. As the man said.

XP sucks. It assumes you're an idiot, and won't let you do what you want. Much like Word 2000.....drives me bonkers.
I mean, I'm no computer wiz (we all know that), but sometimes I really do think I know a little more than, say, my grandmother!!!

Courtesy. I have a 20 bg hdd and a 60 gb hdd. I intend to have both OSen on the same hdd on different partitions and my mp3 collection on teh 60gb drive. That way the collection is available for both OSen. SuSE is easy to install due to YaST and fairly intuitive afaik. I still know little about linux or vi or emacs.. I hope that I am a quick learner. I almost want to run only linux, but I cannot bring myself to do so because I like a few games that will not run on it.
Red, I am not really that interested in the interface of XP, mostly I want the stability that I hear it enjoys. I would love to hear arguments for and against.

I've only ever had one problem with Xp and that was that it couldn't find my modem. So I was down for one day. That was the week after XP was released and I have been running smoothly ever since (in fact, I've only restarted my computer four times since then)

*enters wearing black sidesaddle habit complete with veil, followed by Higgins, Bottomley's valet*
*adjusting gloves* Thank you so much for your hospitality, but I cannot possibly impose on you any longer. I need to ride to Bottomley Manor and assert my claims to the property. James Arthur was the last of the line, except for two aunts whom I shall be looking after henceforth. From what you all said, I think it would be unwise for me to wait.
*turns to Lil* I am glad that you were rescued and that you have such brave and honourable friends. It was most kind of you to bring me here even if the wedding never came to pass.
*smiles at everyone in the salon and performs a small curtsey, then departs down the stairs, where the remaining black mare waits, along with the repaired gig containing the servants and pulled by horses on loan from Amos*
*sound of departing hooves and carriage wheels*
