Help! My Gay-dar aint working
Mikael Posted Jan 20, 2004
Hey, honestyago, kind of a late reply to what you said:
You said people don't recognize you as gay, so I suppose that that REALLY wasn't the case when you were twelve - which makes the story of your first kiss (back on the other thread) kind of interesting. If it isn't likely that that friend of your brother was sure you were gay, where did this 13 year old kid got the courrage to kiss you?
I know I'm being too inquisitive, hehe, just hit me if you don't wanna answer.

*hits Mikael* At the time we were kinda flirting, although he was my brother's best mate, he'd often come out with me when I walked my dog, which was a 2 mile walk along a pretty quiet canal, he knew I liked him as a mate so he took a leap of faith

How brave was he? (I don't think I was even thinking about love/sex when I was 12 or 13, let alone whether I or anyone else was gay.)

Pretty brave, but nothing ventured, nothing gained

True, true ... although I've never even thought of venturing before, certainly not to someone who registered as "gay" or even "maybe" on the old gaydar (due to its unreliability)!

Actually (and I'm surprised this thread's been revived, but there you go!), in recent weeks my gaydar has become much more reliable - mostly because I've been around more gay people now and have a better idea of what to look for. There are still a couple of people who throw me off the scent (a straight-acting gay guy and a camp-acting straight one I know spring to mind), but I've been pretty accurate recently.

Mmmmm .... although before you ask, I already knew Darren (the b/f) was gay because he said so on his Faceparty profile - so it wasn't really gaydar that told me that! However, I've discovered quite a few people in a Gilbert and Sullivan society I'm involved in who I suspected were gay and have confirmed that they are (including the male lead for this year's show).

It's nice knowing you're among friends, isn't it?

*staes the obvious here*
What a shit world it is where you have to rely on someone elses ability to recognise the gay factor, rather than just being gay.
It is bad enough but 'almost' acceptable now to ask for the 'vegetarian option' in a resataurant. When will be acceptable to say not thanks I am gay?

I realised tonight that I'm not sad that I can't find a suitable man, I'm sad that no men actually like me that way. I was seeing 2 unlimited live at the time, so that was a bit of a downer. Does anyone have any practical uses for celibacy?

Well I won't complain if you won't
Oh, and you need a 't' in "staes", and you need to lose one from, "say not thanks I am gay".

I noticed the typos but it was too late to change them! Grumble grumble

The funniest thing was the way I found he wasn't Gay, a bunch of us were outside the building having a smoke and we ended up playing a game consisting of coming up with statistics for things like the proportion of people who are gay, left handed, chinese and people with mental health problems and we realised that there must be a load of gay left handed chinese people with a mental illness. We were joking about who in the group was which when he declaired that he wasn't any.
The biggest problem in my life is that all the men I like are taken and/or straight, and all the women I like are taken and/or friends with my ex

Of course it depends on the situation, if a lot of people in that group are openly gay, this is probably reliable. But otherwise... I know a lot of gay guys who have been sayong things like this ALL the time - in groups where they weren't out yet, off course...
Not to give you false hopes though... :-p
