Actually, I think bars are a naturally occurring feature of baobab trees, at least the large ones. It has to do with... someone's thinking about salmon again, they really want to be rid of it...

Hey Red Dog, do you think that without moving and causing the carpet to throw you off, you could get that salmon off of Amos? It must have been sitting there since the battle.

They really do look like they're growing upside down, with their roots in the air.

*picking up his carbine and sidepack, the ape knuckles over to the treeline, heads easily upward, and begins leaping and swinging his way across the jungle*
