Are there any places that are especially recommended?

Flights booked
I'm on a tight budget this year, so only coming over on the Saturday morning. Will probably try to cadge a bed from best friend in Feltham, or student son in Wood Green.

The date is OK with me, but depends on Gordon being able to find a suitable Mum-sitter. I've done my best to persuade him and he's going to attempt to perform a small miracle and get away for the Friday Fringe as well as the Saturday afternoon & main evening meet to put faces to names.
So you can put us (GB U128652 plus one) down as "hopeful" please 2legs

I should probably go online and see how expensive hotels are in London...

Right, I must* update this this evening/tonight... I got distracted yesterday
hotels vary a lot* in London... there are plenty of very expensive ones, and some less expensive, and not necessarily* that* awful, especially if your just after a simple room for the night ... other's may be able to advise on suitable hotels? I'm fraid not having a clue these days best sort myself out somewhere to sleep too that night... though there is always the collapsed ruins of the strand underpass to consider

Hmm...you'd think they might have moderated their prices in a recession, wouldn't you? Single occupancy costs a fortune!

I was worried that the *least* expensive rooms would cost more than $300 dollars (150 pounds) per night. That might turn out not to be the case..... Of course, I haven't yet priced the cost of return-trip air fare. My hope is that I can fly over the day before, stay overnight, go to the meet, stay over again, and fly back the next day, for $1,500 or less (hopefully less, even a lot less....)

You should certainly be able to find a single room for about £50-70.

Which reminds me that I really should contact my uncle and ask whether I can descend on him.
Why doesn't Firefox like /reminds/?

Flight ticktes and accomodation booked. Will arrive Wed 11th and leave Mon 16th in cas someone wants to know.
Just hope my not showing up spell will be gone. The last two attempts to visit London went awry. The Queen Mum died just prior to MMF's Big Bash and last Spring Meet I was hooked up to some cardio surveillance machinery...

It looks like you guys are going to have to party without me. I always knew it would be difficult this spring for me to get away. There is just too much going on to leave here for more than a long weekend. And it's too far for me to fly over for just a couple of days. It takes a full day of travel to get there. That makes taking a long weekend impractical. I'm not a young woman any more. It would be exhausting.

I'm a definite. No gigs, and no work, so that's good.
Would you like me to investigate afternoon activities, or do attendees prefer something different to an organised event?
If so, which is the preferred option?
a) Static - Park, picnic, etc.
b) Walk of interest - Embankment, City churches, etc.
c) Absorbing - V & A, Natural History, Science Museum etc.
d) Other.
Please advise.

yea (for those who can, and those who cannot, attend, respectively )
ooo an afternoon event sounds good... not sure what my prefernce would be, as I may as yet just be in the pub... but don't know for sure as yet

I will very likely be tired from lack of sleep / jet lag. Will coffee be on the menu at whatever place we get together?

That's a pity, Hyp. I hope next time will suit better.
There are various Starbuck and other places where you can get coffee, Paul.
Accommodation is sparse and expensive for that specific weekend, so you may want to start looking sooner rather than later.

Thanks Bel. I really want to be there, especially since the future is uncertain. It's disappointing to think that I might not ever see you guys again. But I know what my body can tolerate and what it can't.

I expect to go to a travel agent on Feb. 24 and hope that the agent's expertise will help me get the best deal for the least money.
