Witty Moniker

I am just waiting for daughter #2 to get her final exam schedule confirmed, then I will be able to book flights.

The next challenge will be finding a reasonably priced hotel that has rooms suitable for 3 adults. Then both daughters will get to meet my internet weirdo friends. smiley - boing

Indeed. The last day of exams is 13 May. If she has any that day, it means we take a red eye flight that night and I will be Zombie Moniker at the meet. smiley - online2long

Have a suggstion for the slogan though:
h2g2 12th anniversary: Viva la Revolution!

It fits.

Cheers!

It would have been great to meet you, Vip.

I just hope I don't get lost wandering around London. I was only there once, and it was 40 years ago smiley - yikes. I've aged a few years since then, and London has probably changed, right? Right?

I may have crash space if needed. However I do live around an hour from Central London, but convenient for Heathrow. smiley - ok

Might have to get back to you on that, MMF smiley - whistle Not looked for flights or anything yet, but I am marking it down in the work rota. Yarreau is considering coming over, too smiley - ok

I intend to finally make it to the Soane House this time.

If the place we agree on is NT, I can ring them and try to get a special deal. No promises, but it's worth a try!

smiley - ok Sorry if that was misleading. Just meant to say if she comes, we'll probably look at a hotel together, but if it ends up just being me, I might need a sofa because it could be a little late to book. Thanks, anyway! smiley - smiley

How far is Heathrow Airport from the place where we will get together? Are there subway connections between the airport and the rest of London?

The piccadilly line on the tube goes as far as heatrhrow. It tables a hood hour and a bit to get from there into central London. You could take the Heathrow express train, which gets into paddington, iirc, and join the tube there. Other options are available, some London residents might have suggestions.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

I think from Paddington it'd be easier to get to the tube near the meet... I just can't rmeember if you'd then need to change tubes at Kings Cross for Holborn, or if you can get one straight from Paddington to high holborn tube (the tube stop there is really* close to the evening event pub isn't it?) London is pretty well joined up for transport so it ought not be too difficult to get to the afternoon event (wherever that ends up being), from Paddington smiley - zen
Pressuming, of course, if the tube is working that weekend smiley - doh

They quite often carry out maintenance and repairs at weekends, so as minimise disruption to commuters. This can mean certain lines have sections not operating - there's usually replacmennt buses, or ways around using other lines. But your journey might take a bit longer. If you've a smart phone it's worth getting hold of an app that gives up to date info, and will plan your journey for you.

From Paddington, the best route is to take the District (green) Line to Notting Hill Gate (the Circle Line is guaranteed to have engineering works) then Central (red) Line to Holborn.

If from Heathrow, then the Piccadilly (dark blue) Line, straight through.

I like the idea of taking one line straight through, as I've been known to botch connections smiley - yikes. It's kind of reassuring that the different lines have different colo(u)rs. Boston has a Red Line and a Blue Line. The Blue Line goes to and from our airport.
