How do you silence a duvet?

We bought a down-filled duvet which is lovely, except that it rustles pretty loudly, waking me when Mrs Quotes turns over in the night. Is there a way to silence it?

You could make her sleep in the spare room. Termination would be a bit extreme.

Several washings, to soften the exterior of the duvet somewhat?
Or ensure that one or the other of you imbibes copious quantities of booze, and fall comatose for the full night? You could each take turns at the silent and oblivious mode.

Traveller in Time analyzing duvet
"The cover will be made of high density artificial fiber (nylon ... poly synthetic whatever) preventing the shafts of the down penetrating the cover. This cover acts as a stiff material crackling at every move.
As down will not make much noise the cover will be the culprit.
Washing will soften the cover but ruin the down.
--Hang it is the bright sunlight for some hours, this will age the synthetic fibers (make them less stiff). Even out the sun exposure for both sides by turning it.
--Hang it outside during a storm (Make sure to keep it dry) the motion of the cover will wear much of the stiff fibers. Make sure the down does not collect on one side by turning regularly.
--Wear ear covers for as long as it makes noise. (about a year) "

Buy a soft cotton duvet cover and stuff it with the down from the noisy duvet.

For some reason I imagine that would then result in being awoken frequently by the ends of feathers spearing your flesh

I should have added that the open end should be sewn or basted shut. A row of safety pins would do in a pinch.
Obviously buying a duvet with a soft cotton cover would be the best solution, but I don't know how much money is available for the purpose. How much is a good night's sleep worth? For the record, I rarely bother with duvets, preferring quilts.

It's caused by static electricity - you simply need to discharge it.
Vigorously rub a number of fully-inflated balloons onto the bed linen and attach them to the ceiling above the bed. When they fall off, then it's time to repeat this regime.
More details are in this paper in the research journal International Journal of Sleep:
Benjamin G et al. "Optimisation of circadian rhythms through Gaussian discharging by inflatable latex" IJS vol 35-2 pp 556-588.

Move to a warmer climate where a bedsheet is the *most* you'll ever need.

If you adopt 37 felines, they will see to it that you never get a moment's rest anyway. -)
