Hi,
I have some kinda issue on my laptop, I suspect since I agreed a Microsoft update 2 days ago.
I can access websites ok, but I can't watch videos, either on the BBC or youtube, can't see anything other than a blue border on facebook, and my online banking lets me sign in but doesn't display any transactions or allows me to make payments. Yahoo mail loads but doesn't show any actual emails (which is only slightly worse than usual <> ).
Any ideas what I can change to get back to normal?

Another website advises me to enable JavaScript, if that offers a clue.

Hmm.. sorry I'm at a loss except to sympathise and acknowledge
that there has been some heavy hacking going on lately. Mine is
slower than ever and there seems to be a whole other layer of
stuff going on behind my screens. Whenever I close a page I get a
flash of another webpage in the background before another window
I have opened covers it up.
And Microsoft's 'Security Essentials' flagged with me a flashing
red light on my toolbar while refusing to do anything until I had
done a scan and updated their latest viral protections.
It's all a mystery to me but Security Essentials is free. It will scan
and report issues and offer suggestions for remedial actions.

Try using internet explorer, firefox and google chrome. Does the same thing happen in all three? If it only happens in ie, stop using ie. If it only happens in one of the others, deinstall that product and reinstall it.

Two possible culprits spring to mind...
The Java plugin on your browser... Sun systems, who develop it, are notoriously bad at producing patches when possible security breaches are found, and every so often Mozilla, who make firefox, give them a bit of a kick, to get them to produce a security patch, by blocking the Java plugin as a security risk.
The second, and in my opinion, considering you've got a problem with watching videos, is the Shockwave Flash plugin for your browser (It's built into Chrome, but you might want to make sure it's enabled), for other browsers you want to go here... http://get.adobe.com/fr/shockwave/

If it were my computer, I wouldn't try to fix it myself. I would bring it to Data Doctors. For $59.00, they will scan your computer for viruses and other problems, and then set it to rights. There are probably some comparable computer repair places near you.

Hi Maria, I've been watching the futbal and having some cerveza. And vino .
Gnomon, thank for the advice, I downloaded firefox and can access Facebook, email and online banking. I'm pretty sure it's a problem with IE rather than my laptop.
SO2, I was using Windows 7. I'm guessing it's a problem with that as firefox lets me view everything without any problems.

I have a laptop with Vista (I know, I know! - it came installed an I didn't know better), and it has been getting slower and slower and slower. Sometimes it is so slow that it is like the old days of dial-up or worse.
The HDD light is on pretty much all the time - sometimes flickering, but most of the time steady. I have run CC cleaner and have AVG installed.
Any ideas (beyond junk it and don't replace it with a Windows 8 machine).

Run a check and see how many programs you have open at the same time, there might be programs running that you doesn't know about?
Also, go into the control panel, ...Internet options....and delete all Cookies from there, that should help, good luck
