Secretly Not Here Any More

"Even his more coherent episodes, such as those with James Corden, have suffered from unnecessary silliness."

Yeah, the Corden ones needed a bit of fat trimming from the script. Specifically about 18 stone of talentless mockney lard.

I disagree about Smith not having a standout well-written episode. The Doctor's Wife and Vincent and the Doctor were both cracking.

That said, they were written by Neil Gaiman and Richard Curtis respectively, so it doesn't look like the regular writing stable are doing much to earn their keep.

It does seem to have been a while since the Doctor solved a problem. Mostly it seems like there's an interesting story set up that's resolved by everyone wishing really hard for a resolution and it happens. Sometimes it helps to have some dramatic music or double talk.

Not that I'm going to miss an episode.

I've just caught up with last week's episode, and all I can say is "ho hum".

I think having all these different writers isn't really doing it much good.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Doctor Who has always had loads of different writers though. You might as well say "having all these cameras isn't doing it much good".

Not that I know everyone's age here, but based on
those I do have some idea of, it is easy to make
a sweeping generalisation and say that the elder
folks here seem to be less satisfied than the
more enthusiastic 'youngsters'. Dare I say it's
not unlike the Thunderbirds' demographix?

Ah youth, so wasted on the young.

Tension! That's what we needed, and what this week's episode delivered. Trapped in a classic 'base under seige' story with a classic monster, great actors and for once a script with the vision to do something other than launch into the Eurovision song contest at the end. smiley - ok

I must be getting old if the historical stories are now taking place in my lifetime...smiley - senior

Tesco (they just happen to win the award this morning - it could have been anywhere that I shopped).

I pulled a muscle in my back in the shower this morning (don't ask!) and stopped off at Tesco for Ibuprofen because I can't raise my arms above chest height at the moment.

The Ibuprofen is at shoulder level.

Oh and since I am first in the office, I need to turn off alarms and so on. They are at eye level.

So far the day hasn't been going well.

It would make a great Dr Who story, though!

The Doctor and the Ibruprofen above elbow height. With little Ibuprofen monsters jumping out of the packets, and flitting around above people's heads, where they can't reach up to swat them. And then Matt Smith would come along, open the door to Tesco's meat freezer, and the resulting drop in temperature would reduce their rate of wing-flap, and they would drop down to below elbow-level, where they could be swiftly dealt with.

Once again engaging directly with the OP
I believe it is now safe to say No it isn't
just you, and it isn't just Dr Who; it's me.
And it's been me for a long time now so
I'm just gonna STFU.

There's a video there of the storyboard that plays out a scene
from the final Amy And Rory storyline...

The scene was cut and never filmed.
