Munsters or Addams Family?

Post 1

Pink Paisley

I am thinking of the 196's TV series' rather than any prequel (in strip cartoon form or whatever) or later spin offs.

The Addams Family pre-date The Munsters in TV terms by 6 days and ran for about 4 months longer in it's first showings. The Munsters wins 70 - 64 in terms of episodes.

So are you a Munster or an Addams?

both, actually, but if I had to choose Addams. When I hit the eyeliner/black clothing phase my grandad used to call me Morticia and it stuck for years. He, in turn, being rotund and balding was called Uncle Fester.

Mr. Dreadful - But really I'm not actually your friend, but I am...

Addams Family. Even allowing for the sensibilities of 1960s American sitcoms they managed to be more sinister than the Munsters. Partly, I suspect, because they looked more normal (well, up to a point).

Addams Family all the way. Munsters just feels like a cheaper, less interesting knock-off.

Addams. I used to like The Munsters as a kid, but thinking back the series was entirely carried by the charm of Fred Gwynne's performance as Herman.

Addams.

I came across the strips as a kid, loved the telly, didn't mind the films.

Munsters was good, but it wasn't Addams.

I'm so disappointed that The Munsters are not more popular. I was a Munsters fan.

Rev Nick - dead man walking (mostly)

Having all of one TV channel in the day, the Munsters were the ones I knew. I only 'met' the Addams folks some decades later. So not surprisingly, I vote Munsters. Herman was the ultimate goof-become-hero so many times, and Grampa was just always a chuckle.

Magwitch - My name is Mags and I am funky.

Addams, Gomez was *far* cuter than Herman.

Munsters was on more. I enjoyed Christina Ricci and Angelica Huston in the Addams films.

My favourite line from the films is when Morticia is talking to Debbie:

Morticia: You have gone too far. You have married Fester, you have destroyed his spirit, you have taken him from us. All that I could forgive. But Debbie...

Debbie: What?

Morticia: ...pastels?

It's better than that Mrs Zen - the quote goes "all that I can respect..."

Followed by Grandma:

Debbie: "What was that?"
Grandma: "Just a curse, have a nice day."

Addams Family Values is one of my favourite films of all time and that is one of the best quotes from it.
