Ask: Extras, Ricky gervais's new show. What did people think?

I thought it was very good.

Not as funny as the office, but very funny in parts.

Had me properly cringing and watching through my fingures in the same way though.

I think that RG does toe curlingly embarrasing better than anyone.

I flicked onto it briefly. I thought the bits without Gervais were better than the bits with, but then again I'm not a big fan of his stuff. I've still yet to watch the two series of The Office I got bought for my birthday last year, that's just how much I "like" him as a comedian.

If you've got BBC3, presumably you're watching it?

Absolute Power is on BBC2 now, with the BoB-like Stephen Fry.

I didn't think it was too bad, think it'll get better in coming weeks.

I've already got a small stock of quotes remembered:

Andy: "Do you have to buy a pair of shoes and chuck one away?"

Bloke: "Are you having some dinner?"
Andy (standing with tray): "Yeah...just letting it cool down a bit"

Andy: "I find it difficult telling the difference between Chinese and Japanese people"
Woman: "Oh we learnt about that in school, you go I am Chinese, I am Japa..."

Mostly laughed.

One moment (can't remember which) went over the line for me but then that's Gervais' forte, getting close-to-the-bone-cringy.

So 8.5 out of 10 I reckonsmiley - smiley

I remember watching the very first episode of 'The Office' and thinking 'yeah, all right, give it time'. Same thing here, I think - and it really cracked me up a few times already.

'Are you going?'
'Nooo, can't, I'm doing anything else'

Catherine Tate made me laugh as well. After months of pre-summer and summer 'blah', it's just good to have a decent TV night again.

I'm talking about Absolute Power, obviously. In case that wasn't clear, with the in-between posts.

I'm not really here

I do like it, and I thought it was funny, but I hate it when people who get paid loads of money to act, can't actually act enough to sound different to a previous character!

He's obviously got the same voice, can't do much about that, but the wasy he speaks is exactly the same! Close your eyes and you're back in the Office. smiley - blue He's not the only one who does it, I've noticed it with other tv 'actors'. They aren't acting at all, they're just standing infront of the camera being themselves. I wish they'd put a bit more effort into it.

Like Hugh Laurie - I've watched him for years and years and years as a comedy chap, but I've only been watching House for a few weeks and I've forgotten that he's putting on (ie *acting*) that accent, and I don't epect him to say 'Marvellous' or 'Marjorie' any more. That's proper acting.
