Still plenty of discussion left in this one surely

Personally, regardless of button colour, I think my first actions would be investigate it and the notice to see what i could find. If it were possible to dismantle or open up the button workings then that'd be first.

So likely as not I'd be the one found dead in the room cos I'd taken the button apart and then failed to assemble it again. Probably found collapsed on the floor with a couple of screws or washers left over by me

My other thought would be : If you were in this situation and had accertained that you thought it was an experiment to find out how long people would go before pressing the button, would you refuse to press the button and turn the experiment round by seeing how long it would be before the researches would abandon the experiment? And would it then turn into a battle of wills?

This sounds a bit like that movie "Cube" where they all wake up in the bunch of cubes then?

I would look for the door. Not finding one, I would press the button, happily knowing that either nothing will happen, or that I am probably at ground zero.

I'd have a look. Think about it for a few seconds. Try to work out what it's attached to - then press it in the hope that some food and water might appear in this otherwise empty room before I starve to death.

I wouldn't press it - you never know what weird diseases you might pick up from buttons!

For all those who said they would press the button let me ask this: If you were standing in front of a metal fence that had a sign on it which read 50,000 volts, don`t touch- would you touch it?

And as for the red button in the empty room, of course I'd press it. And then complain if nothing happened

I'd get the white out out of my bag and either white out the "DON'T" and then press the button...
Or white out the button and take a nap...

Bizzarely one of the four real regrets I have in my life is NOT pressing a button.

We were in a lift.

It was late.

We had had a good night out.

We were on the way home.

It was a very nice 1930s lift.

But I didn't press the button....
