Read my earlier post (the one by me that comes before this one), it has the basic rumors. Not any plot, just little hinklings.

No problem, it can be hard to read every post, especially when you have something in your mind that you really want to write out.

Here is my forpen'orth (or however you spell it) All series eventually come to an end. There are only a limited number of stories you can do, the trick is to put them in different lights and contexts, and try to vary the spin. As such, I think the Starfleet context has been exhausted. There are now so many rules to the Star Trek Universe (The Klingons live here, Cardassians will do blah in situation X etc.) that it becomes very difficult to put a new spin on a story. You are almost bound to contradict something. This, in my opinion, is where all these Holodeck stories come from. Why not just go and explore this Holo world and leave the Starfleet rules and morals alone. Basically, any idea eventually sinks under it's continuity, or ignores it to the point that it is not the same idea in the end.
So, I reckon they should let it die and do something else. It doesn't have to be that inventive. I think Farscape is grand, but it is very derivative (my friends and I labelled it Muppets 7 initially), Blakes 7 did a number of stories very similar to Original Trek but with interesting spins and Trek itself just took old Western ideas and run in a new direction with them.

Please note; while I have seen a good bit of Trek, I ain't a fan, so if I have said something that is wrong, sorry, please don't kill me smiley - smiley

I don't think that Star Trek within itself is dead. I am almost positive that there will never be another Star Trek series on TV. But Movies will last until God knows when.

I grew up with the original series and I enjoy Voyager, but I have to agree with Jester. I can't think of where the TV series can reasonably go from here. Snag is, if they don't continue with the TV series, the films will eventually come to an end. The actors will be too old to continue or won't want to. Even Brent Spiner (Data in ST:TNG) is starting to show his age under his make-up - something that would never happen to a 'droid. So you need a new series to continue the films.

This is turning into a circular argument. You need one to continue the other, but the one has nowhere to go ... I quit. If the TV company wants to make another, it will. I'm just not sure it will be any good.

Paladin of the Lost Hour

I suppose I'd be considered a fan of Star Trek--been to a convention, watched the original series more than I played in the sunshine, etc.--but I won't kill (or threaten to kill) anyone who's got a different opinion of the show in any of its incarnations. I enjoyed the movies (well, most of them), but as far as the Next Generation goes...there's just so much that can be said for that crew. I can't see a DSN or Voyager movie happening, either.
And while we're talking Next Generation, Patrick Stewart might be a bit busy the next few years with his Next Big Role (and, personal, biased opinion: ONE of his best): as Professor Charles Xavier in "X-Men".

Well, I have to say that if any new series/films are as flaming awful as Insurrection, I won't enjoy the experience. Although, obviously, I will watch (compulsively in the case of a series).
Voyager lost the plot a little: one minute they're complaining about a lack of power resources, the next Harry Kim is replicating flowers for some girl on the holodeck.
I would like to see some of the history of the cooperation between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. And of course how the Klingons came to change their appearance so drastically.
Perhaps we could also explore a bit of the Maquis actions, particularly that of the Voyager Maquis crew - how/why exactly did B'lana leave the academy, what made someone so obviously Starfleet it hurts like Chakotay go over to the Maquis. What about Ceska?
What I definately don't want to see is all that faffing about on DS9 with the Prophets. Pah. Too airy fairy by half!

Star Trek 10 would have been a DS9 movie, but then the war ended. I personally think that a Section 23 (or whatever they're called) series would work. So I think that ST 10 will be the last TNG film, ad the new series will take on the new Enterprise sets. Why build a whole new ship in such incredible detail for two movies? Don't make sense.
Also, Voyager entered the Delta Quadrant with 27 Type 6 photons. They are obviously stopping at local branches of Weapons R' Us on the way home.
Finally, Klingons do NOT discuss what happened to themselves with outsiders!

A DS9 movie without Captain Sisko wouldn't have been much cop. And Julian Bashir is toooooo annoyingly brilliant at everything for a film. Maybe getting him together with 7of9 and Wesley Crusher (sp?) would be a good idea. They could bore the pants off each other being brilliantly perfect at everything, and we could watch a film with Captian Picard.
Voyager has gone completely barmy. Last night's episode was good only for the way 7 dealt with the Borg kids. Brilliant. I know just how she feels, and I have a strong suspicion that my own offspring were assimilated when I had my back turned. While I'm on the subject can someone explain why the Borg sometimes want to assimilate Federation crew members singly, but usually they only assimilate a whole species? I think more films involving the Borg would be good. And a lot more Klingons. (even if they don't want to talk about their past with outsiders I think it would help them to come to terms with it) And some more Ferengi. I love 'em.

Phil Farrand put forward an intereseting alternative idea to the plot of 'Descent'. In case you haven't seen it, Lore teams up with some rogue Borg and kidnaps Data as well. He then hatches a plot to defeat the Federation. He would have suceeded too, if it wasn't for those meddling Starfleeters!
Phil said 'Why not have Lore build a bunch of androids with crazed emotions? If Lore could build one android a month, and each android could build another of itself in a month, in four years Lore would have an army of over 1,000 androids.' Why not recycle the idea?
On the Borg - as far as they are concerned, they are at war with UFP. They also have thousands of great tactical minds in the collective if they've assimilated so many species. So they know that it will be beneficial to reduce the enemy's numbers. They also have a lot of arrogant people in the collective, because they only ever send one ship to do anything.

I think the best territory to explore would be the federation before the first star trek series. How did they solve the crises of feeding planets, how did they arrive at teleporting, what drove humans to explore space, and what really wonderful explosions occurred along the way?

[GB] No, they still only send one ship to assimilate UFP. Still arrogant.

New series - so good they should do it twice! I think they should, if they did do that, feature the USS Horizon as the main vessel. Although unfortunately it won't happen, it's still a good idea. Another good 'retro' series would be, as mentined earlier, one featuring the Enterprise-B. We can then see if Capt. Harriman's ability to command WAS being delivered on Tuesday, or whether he ended up doing cargo runs.

ok...I followed all of that till you got to the USS Horizon. I'm a little out of the loop--I've seen little of DS9 and less of voyager, (and the only reaosn I watched was for visuals and new ship designs) so any info about the Horizon would be appreciated. smiley - smiley

Maybe they should go back and explore what happened after the Vulcans (because we all knew in our heart of hearts that it was the Vulcans) first came to earth. Because it's always seemed a bit strange to me that Earth (Terra sometimes) was abouut one of the last planets to obtain Warp drive, how come they're such a leading light of the federation? I still maintain that we need a whole Klingon series. Or maybe explore the Vulcan/Romulan thing. Or even the Vulcans before they descovered inner enlightenment and were just as feisty and horrible to each other as the rest of us are. But no more Lore / Data conflicts. Or how about that little Borg Hugh and his mates who were left on a planet to fend for themselves and live as a "collective" separate from the Borg. It would be interesting to see how they got on (bet they got re-assimilated). Or going back even further: we could go to the Tribble homeworld and see what that looks like (furry and cute, I imagine)........

Before the Klingons wiped them out, you mean?
but then.....at the end of Trials & Tribbellations, *some* Tribbles were seen on DS9. So, do some still exist somewhere, or did the Klingons have to wipe them all out again? smiley - winkeye

In the book Trials and Tribble-ations, Odo did indeed bring back several of the little furballs. So, owing to their ability to propagate like they do, I would imagine that the Klingons will again be facing their greatest nemisis in history very shortly.

To add my two cents in, for a new series, they could switch to a Klingon House instead of following a Federation ship. Another suggestion that has been brought forward was indeed a Star Trek Academy series. I wouldn't mind seeing the grittier side of Star Trek and more of the Special Operations type missions or even a series with the Diplomatic Corps. After all West Wing is a huge hit, why not a Trek version?

It's not so much that Trek is played out, it's that the writers have gotten pathetically lazy. Are you SERIOUSLY telling me that the best they could come up with for bad guys for Voyager to face was a bunch of geeks with bad haircuts?!?!?! Janeway couldn't have been a wimpier Captain, after being a loyal fan since the begining, I stopped watching Voyager within the first year.
~S That's my two pence worth. smiley - smiley
