Star Trek TOS
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 28, 2000
I think that Star Trek TOS is the first, best, and last of the Star Trek incarnations. I never got into any of the newer series. And, I think that the movies need to be stopped. As for new series to replace this classic I don't think it's possible, no one can replace Captain Kirk, Spock, Bones, and Scotty.
I will say that I do enjoy LEXX and there was a short-lived series on that was about a guy in some kind of virtual world trying to get out and it had something to do with the military and how they had killed his wife; I don't recall the name but I liked that while it was on.

Would that new show you're referring to be the short-lived Chris Carter creation, "Harsh Realm"?
holodeck worlds
james Posted Aug 29, 2000
caught the last hour or so of the movie generations on tv lastweek.i think they could kill jim at least once more
Hersh Realm
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 29, 2000
Yes - that was the show that I was referring to. I thought it was pretty good, too bad they dropped it.
H-A-rsh Realm
Oolon Flux Posted Aug 29, 2000
Sorry - I do apologize for my MISspelling! I love the X-files also!
H-A-rsh Realm
Paladin of the Lost Hour Posted Sep 2, 2000
Don't worry about the misspelling...I was more concerned about Chris Carter's inability to follow up the X-Files with something less than admirable...perhaps the Lone Gunmen series will be better.

I though that Carter had a bit of explaining to do in the most recent serise we got down here, cant for the life of me figure out which serise that was but I was unimpressed non the less. Sorry I'm having a mental lapse and I'm freezin my ass off- it's cold.
The show you guys are talking about: harsh realm, it hasn't quite reached our shores. But I am a full on trekkie.
I think i'm just falling asleep here so i'll go now.
Die Star Trek, Die!

TNG: Soap in space. It's okay to be sensitive when faced with certain death, because the dude with the glasses is going to recalibrate/twiddle with the phase array/strossiter ion field/doohickey and save the day. Why didn't he do that 50 mins earlier and save us a lot of boredom? Plastic people (literally when you consider foreheads!) plastic plots etc. etc. Good riddance. Wait! Wait! Oh God! Here's a bit where Data shows human emotion! That somehow makes it all worth while...... Does this mean the Klingon is going to cry, too?
DS9: More of the same, only less travelling around. Again, characters worthy of a really cheesy fantasy novel set (book XXii of the Predicticon!) deal in a laughable fashion with really 'gripping' issues of the day: old age, certain death etc. etc. How come they never have to tackle boredom? The episode where they dealt with some wild space travelling Irish people was truly cringeworthy, and I watched repulsed yet fascinated as it unfolded. It was like watching a snake eat a rat- yucky, but compulsive viewing just the same. Begorrah, 'twas lucky indeed for dem dat I was not beside them with me shilelagh at the ready b'gor...
Voyager. Had possibilities until the too cutesy-poo neelix and his girlfriend showed up. Gahhh!
That Star Trek in its current form has lasted so long just goes to show that the standard of sci-fi programs being produced is incredibly dire. I don't think there's been a decent one since (dare I say it) H2G2.

Every one is intitled to their opinion buuuut
SMEG OFF
I totally understand that you may not think that Star Trek is worthy to be watched by you, but there are a lot of people that like it...
dont tell me you absolutly loved Star Wars episode one?
I happen to like Star Trek and I think alot of people around have to agree with me?

I'm in your corner, Cheeze.
If anyone who visits has some negative thoughts to impart, they'd be better off running down to the local gym and pounding on a punching bag than venting them here--censorship notwithstanding--we just don't need to hear that kind of negativity...
You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, though, Mouli...uh, what was your name?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, although I must admit I am *fascinated* by a person who sits and watches something they hate, simply to complain about it.
Have you tried watching programmes you like?

While there is no way to argue with "I don't care what you say, I LIKED it!", I agree with Harlan Ellison when he said (and I'm not quoting this)" you're not entitled to your opinion; you're entitled to your INFORMED opinion."
I don't know how to apply this to watching a show on t.v, regardless of how vaccuous it is, but the argument stands: INFORMED opinions count, the rest don't.

In a forum asking the question 'is Star Trek dead?' I answer yes, and say why I think that is so. Touchy, touchy, touchy!
My opinion *is* informed. I have watched enough of the latter-day cash-in-on-the-original Star Trek series to have judged them, and have found them wanting. A few chapters of a book should suffice to demonstrate its quality. Likewise, a few episodes of any tv show will display its shortcomings quite quickly.
As for not watching it, I do my best to avoid it, but just like elevator music, there seems to be a certain amount of inevitability involved... alas, it isn't always possible for me to keep a clean sheet where ST is involved.

~humbly kneeling, apologizing for barking~
Good point, Fruitbat.
Have to agree with all points made since my last post...new topic, anyone?
Has anyone heard about the new Roddenberry series "Andromeda"? From the one commercial that's played here in the States, it looks like a Battlestar Galactica ripoff.

Now, is that fact or rumor? Informed opinions, anyone (not saying yours isn't informed, dear GB!)?

Well I found a web-site on Andromeda, with a pic of Kevin Sorbo on it...with rather shorter hair than his Hercules role....I'll scroll back for the link because I think I posted it here! http://www.andromedatv.com/splash.htm......hehehe I am getting good at this, hope that link works
