Fanny - do you understand what "It seems" means?

Lies, damn lies and statistics
I know from personal experience the vast majority of what we read in the papers, if not all, and via other media including the BBC for that matter, is only what our political masters wish us to know. The rest they simply make up There are some outrageous lies and then there are the 'D' notices
Our modern UK democracy Yeah right!

Well yes swl..I would expect a normally truthful person to say, in keeping with the article,, 'It seems allegations have been made' or 'It is alleged'
'It seems' strikes me as the kind of ambiguous thing a politician would say.
But hey what do I know about the "Jury Team's ' strategy of giving factual truth to people.

Meanwhile,
"Moves to safeguard company trademarks and stamp out ambush marketing, to preserve the monopoly of official advertisers and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) logo, are raising concerns among civil liberty groups. Police will have powers to enter private homes and seize posters, and will be able to stop people carrying non-sponsor items to sporting events."

Just think about that one for a minute.

those are pretty much word for word the same rules they had in Vancouver, swl.
Let me check:
Olympics over?
yep.
did the police knock down anyone's door?
nope.
have I noticed an increase in police presence in my kitchen?
nope.
Well, it worked out okay this time.
I agree it's disturbing, but I have a feeling it will work out alright.

Yep. I fully expect an increase in paranoia and a concentration on all kinds of potential negatives about 2012, from various quarters, as we get closer.
Some people have an agenda; that's obvious, and will continually seize on negatives, to push their agenda.
I know you probably aren't interested anhaga, but you are more than welcome to come and stay with me, for the games And bring ~jwf~ with you.

Thin end of the wedge, I reckon.
There's an old salesman's trick, for the kind of salesman who visits people in their own home. Order the head of the house to get you a glass of water. Do not say "please". The head of the house cannot refuse water, but a pattern is established: if he/she obeys, then everyone will go along with what you say.
Pass draconian laws. Do not abuse them. Then you can ask "what are you complaining about?" and then, much later, you can say, "These laws have been on the books for twenty years and nobody has complained till now.

This just seems to be such a pattern:
'A US senator with a history of opposing gay rights has been arrested for driving drunk after reportedly leaving a gay nightclub in California.
Republican Senator Roy Ashburn was pulled over by the Californian Highway Patrol at 2am on Wednesday after officers observed a black Chevy Tahoe SUV swerving in Sacramento, CBS13.com reports.
Ashburn, a father of four, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than 0.8 percent, the legal limit in the US.
Sources told CBS13 Senator Ashburn had been at Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento.
He was taken to Sacramento County Jail and released on A$1445 bail.
A male passenger in the car at the time of traffic stop was not arrested. . .
Since taking office in the State Senate, Ashburn has voted against every gay rights law, including Recognising Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages and Expanding Anti-Discrimination Laws.'

anhaga, I don't understand the there's a reason for this pattern. A Republican is most likely a Christian and the essence of Christianity is self loathing. We're all sinners, born defectives.
It only makes sense that he would vote against is own idiosyncracies.

Yeah, we could be the official Canadian Two Man Chesterfield Team.
And if that noble 'couch' would fit onto the London Eye, I'd like to repay its
kindness with a view of the city. And then maybe a close-up view of the Thames.
