Saw what I thought would be a perfect trip down memory lane and a reminder of my early film-going days the other night, I'm talking about "Trouble in Store", featuring that scallywag, Norman Wisdom. It took me ten minutes from the end of the opening credits to develop a burning desire to thrash said comic within an inch of his worthless life.

Saw Sin City last night after watching The League of Gentleman's Apocalypse.

Both very smiley - weird and both great smiley - biggrin

Mickey Rourke is a little chap in real life so that was clever cinematography. If you've ever seen the Green Mile then remember the size of John Coffey, well he was in Sin City on a much smaller scale (Although still a big bloke).
My favourite comment in the whole thing though was from my parnter Phil, who quipped that Bruce Willis had a Hot Cross Bun head smiley - laugh
I think Frodo had definitely put on the One Ring in that film smiley - winkeye

I think a bit of prior knowledge is required to enjoy the League of Gentleman's film smiley - laugh

I'm trying to9 think of a way to describe Nightwatch without giving too much away Flaky! I'ts very bizarre and quite gory in places..the basic story revolves around a police force for light..the nightwatch and a force for the dark..the day watch.Bascally theres a been a truce between those on both sides with supernatural powers (vampires, shapeshifters etc)for hundreds of years and the two forces keep an eye on it n make sure no ones breaking it.

I enjoyed Nightwatch myself, one of those cool head f**k movies. Thought it will probably take a few viewings to fully understand. As Serephina said its difficult to describe.

The closest films to it in style that i can think of are probably '12 Monkeys' and a French film called 'The City of Lost Children.'

I love the City of Lost Children.
The scene with Santa Claus and scratched record is disturbing beyond words. smiley - yikes

Thor of Asgard

I recently saw Tommy Boy with Chris Farley (he's a genius) and David Spade, that was hilarious smiley - smiley I also saw Army of Darkness, the worst movie I have ever seen, I will never get those precious wasted hours back smiley - wah I would like to warn the entire population of the universe that Army of Darkness is the worst film ever created, not even the worst Vogon poetry could possibly compare with this sad excuse for a motion picture.

Klatuu Verata Nic - !

No!

Necktie!

Nickle!

(smiley - eureka!)

Klatuu Verata Nic*cough* *wheeze* *cough* *splutter*

smiley - laugh

I'll not hear a word said against The Evil Dead's they are masterclasses in experimental cinematography and cheesy, gory horrors that don't take themselves very seriously at all. ("Groovy" smiley - bigeyes)

The POV shots from Dr Oc's tentacles in Spiderman 2 where a direct homage by Sam Raimi to his earlier directoral debut - he even included a chainsaw. smiley - laugh

smiley - popcorn

P.S

"Kaltuu Verata Nictu" are the last words spoken from the dying Alien in "The Day The Earth Stood Still." 'Klatuu' is apaprently the name of the giant silver robot. smiley - ufo

Saw Serenity yesterday - OMG! it was ace smiley - smiley Showed what Star Wars should have been. It had good acting (so it is already one up on Star Wars), an intelligent script, people you care about with believable motivations. In turn it was moving, exciting, funny and scary. You do not need to have seen the series, but you do need to see Serenity.

On another note I will not hear a bad word said against the Chinmeister....

Saw A History of Violence yesterday.

Can't make my mind up about it, a little far fetched for my tastes.** I think at the minute I think it was quite good but not up to the hype I've read...

Hmmm.

**Coming from someone who owns Spiderman on DVD, that's a smiley - laugh

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

Fans of Bruce Cambell are directed forthwith to seek out a copy of his book 'If Chins Could talk'. Much brilliant stuff is included. It's also actually worth listening to his hilarious commentaries on all the Evil Dead dvd's as he describes the tortures Sam Raimi put him through on all 3 shoots. smiley - laugh

Saw 'Dirty Dancing' for the first time ever last night. Not the pile of puke inducing dreck i was expecting., though it must be said the thing i enjoyed most was the soundtrack (save for the two crassly inserted 'modern' songs.

Also saw 'The Cat Comes Home', from the wizards at Studio Ghibli. Not perhaps in the same class as Miyazaki's best work, but nonetheless a witty, warm hearted cartoon with fabulous cats and a hilarious voice acting role from Tim Curry as the King of Cats.

Totally agree about Serenity: the film of the year beyond doubt.

I've also seen Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit; an excellent full-length debut for the claymation dusmiley - doctor
