is the island really that good....well of course its always going to be up to the individual... i can only report as i saw it... but i didn't rate pearl harbour too well, and armageddon was ok... but i think the island is much better than either of them...
you could look up the imbd boards but beware a lot of them tell almost the entire story... and for piccy reddy freddy.. we can judge wether an actor is giving a good performance or not..ewan wcgregor is an extremly respected actor and he certainly came up to scratch on the island..
end of the day its about entertainment.. its not life or death or rocket science....entertaining thought provoking stuff.. i loved it [but thats my opinion folks]

Went to see Unleashed (aka Danny the Dog) and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Bob Hoskins get to repeat the role of Harold from 'The Long Good Friday', and Morgan Freeman gets to play the blind piano tuner. Amazingly Jet Li actually does some acting and even does some of the 'innocent abroad' shtick that has made Jackie Chan a western star.
If kick-arse kung fu (Li was six times wu-shu champion and the film was choreographed by Yuen woo Ping (The matrix, Crouching Tiger... and many, many HK masterpieces) with a heart is the thing your after, I recommend it very highly.

When you say films, do you mean visits to the cinema, if so, being the school holdidays, the cinemas are filled with more excrutiating garbage than usual, but I took delivery yesterday of a DVD that warmed the cockles of my heart. The film's called, A Very Long Engagement - You remember the girl in Amelie, well, she's in it, and the film is a poetic and visual experience that's well worth seeking out.

At the cinny, the most recent film I've been to see is Tim Burton's version of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', which as with all of his film was pretty damn fine in terms of the feast for the eye. Unfortunately the promises for a much darker take of the subject than was given in the Gene Wilder version that kept being hinted at never came to any kind of satisfying fruition... and the hachneyed sentimental ended that appear to have been put in as an after-thought really was a let down. Also the use of "American-English" by the loavable cockney character was irritating... The were quite a few laughs to be had for me at least... they seemed to go over the head of the rest of the audiance at the screening I went to until people finally go t the joke after my laughing made them realise there had been one...
So as Tim Burton films go it was well-below par but that still marks it out as an above average film.

agree with lord wolfenden cursed is quite lame, but christina ricci has become quite the little sex pot...
saw the cave last week....comparing it to the descent, well the descent is much better, more gritty and relies more on good acting than special effects,.....but the cave isn't a stinker, probably give it 7 out of 10.
but it will be compared unfavourably....
we also thought much was unexplained...does anyone know the relevance of the tattoo...probably was from one of the original cavers, but missed any tie with it...

Watched "The Motorcycle Diaries" on Wednesday evening. It's a beautifully made film about a personal hero of mine, Che Guevara. I highly recommend it!

'Open Range'.
Say what you like about Kevin Costner (and the Lord knows he has made some absolute stinkers in his career), he *knows* about westerns.
'Open Range' is another triumph (and a helluva lot better than the massively overpraised 'Missing', despite a barnstorming performance from Tommy Lee Jones), and one of the rare movies I've watched recently that really made me wish I'd seen it on the big screen - it is *HUGE*.
Maybe I need to get a copy of 'Dances With Wolves' and 'Wyatt Earp' after all...

I saw 'Open Range' on the big screen months ago
If I recall, he used the set for his latest wedding (Kevin Costner).
This mornings Senior Screen offers a choice of 3:
The Jealous God
Red Eye
Forty Year Old Virgin
I've searched but I can't find anything out about "Jealous God" the film, and googling it just brings up a ton of religious bumf I'm not going to wade through.
I've seen a trailer for Red Eye - looks quite thrilling - as for the 40-y-o virgin, well, think I'll pass.

Have you not seen Dances With Wolves then Blues?
If not, make sure you do, a true classic in my opinion.
I wouldn't bother with Wyatt Earp though, it's possibly the most boring film I've ever seen. I never made it to the end as it made me angry by being so boring.

Cinema - The Longest Yard. Watchable but painful remake hash. Not a patch on the original but not as bad as I expected. Film dumbed down (as if the original wasnt exactly rocket science either) for the MTV generation. Loud music and obvious stereotypical gags with the worst case of product placement (McDonalds) I have ever seen. Plastic surgery may of smoothed out Burt Reynolds aging face to the point of expressionless blandness but it cannot hide his aging neck. Wach the original, brilliant film.
DVD - Napoleon Dynamite. Off the wall weirdness. Most left-field pointless meandering film I have seen for some time. Awesome characters and dialogue though. Excellent stuff. Well worth watching, if only for the steak throwing and dancing for president scenes.

Saw Reign of Fire and X-Men on the telly last week. X-Men I've seen a few times before but I still really like it, it has some great quotes. Reign of Fire is a film I've been meaning to see for a while, it's always looked kinda interesting, which it was. Pretty average but good popcorn-fodder, not a disappointment

I may be the only person in the Western world to say this, but I actually quite enjoyed The Postman.
Wyatt Earp is Dullsville, though. Tombstone is much better.
Most recently, I've been watching a DVD of a film that came out earlier this year...some far-fetched sci-fi thing about the being destroyed...

Kung Fu Hustle bends the rules of film and physics with joyous abandon. A very funny film, a hoot!
