Watched Life of Pi this afternoon: absolutely wonderful. One of the best looking films I've ever seen, just beautiful. Think the lad is in for a good shout at the Best Actor Oscar as well.

Watched The Artist last night. An enjoyable film but was it as good as the hype?
Good fun spotting familiar faces but rather predictable and a bit long drawn out.

Watched The Man from Nowhere last night. Brilliant film from Korea,
subtitled of course but worth watching.
An ex-special agent takes it on himself to rescue a neighbour's little
girl from gangsters who are into drugs and organ harvesting.
100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I saw Millers Crossing for the first time last night. How on earth have I not seen that film before. It is absolutely fantastic. Byrne is just tremendous in every scene.
I also, in anticipation of Django Unchained, watched Pulp Fiction. Every bit as good today (and for the umpteenth time for me) as it has ever been.

I've heard the film has no end...that or it just feels like it goes on forever.
At least, like a lot of films it doesn't keep repeating itself.

The Hobbit. Oh wow. That was just FAB*.
And dwarves can be sexy. Who knew?
Mol
*Well. I could have done without the 'Find the dwarf-scum!' bits and all the wargs. But otherwise ... excellent.

Hmmm. Could Skyfall win Best Picture? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-20925447

Hopefully not. It was good, but it wasn't that good.
Watched Silver Linings Playbook this afternoon. Heavier than I was expecting but still really enjoyable. Jennifer Lawrence is just a pleasure to watch, Bradley Cooper showed what he can do when he isn't making films with idiots and there was a great ensemble cast. As my mate says it's quite a film that can combine American football with ballroom dancing.

Skyfall was good but not amazing. I came out thinking I;d some how missed something that everyone else seems to have 'got' about the film.
It's nowhere near as good as Casino Royale which for me is the best Bond movie there has been...however it wasn't directed by Sam Mendes and wasn't the 50th Anniversary one.

Watching The Iron Lady just now and despite my left leaning tendencies and hatred of all things Conservative I'm really enjoying it.

I watched the DVD of "Moon" whlst ironing at the weekend. It wasn't at all what I expected. Most unusual. As is my wont, I watched it again immediately with the director's commentary. (Duncan Jones, in case you'd forgotten. Parallels with "Source Code" are rife.) I swear, I hadn't realised while watching that those moon buggies were models!

Moon is one of my favourite films in recent years. I absolutely loved it. I really enjoyed Source Code too. Mr Bowie Jnr is one to watch for sure.
For a while he was strongly linked to the Superman reboot. Ahhhh.... that would have been something. After getting my hopes up that Jones would helm Zak Snyder getting the gig was terribly disappointing.
Anyone know What Jones' next project will be?

Aha, IMDB states he is directing a biopic of Ian Fleming. A bit of a departure will be interesting to see how he handles something different.

The Moon is superb and did not get the recognition it deserved.

"Moon" and "Source Code" together really make you wonder who you are. They are both very, very original takes on the notion of identity and reality.
With a biopic, he's going to have to take a completely different approach and think less outside the box.
Or is he? Didn't Flemiing create James Bond as a sort of alter ego who was all that Fleming wanted to be and wasn't?

Life of Pi.
Really good film, I enjoyed it alot and amazing mixture of visuals. Saw it in 3d too - I can see why it's been so positively talked about: a movie where the 3d worked ... most of the time.
However given my atheistic leanings I found the rather shallow spirituality to be rather grating e.g. "I can believe every religion simultaneously" (provided you can ignore that they totally contradict each other) up to the ultimate justification for belief in god, to paraphrase: 'hang what is true; this sounds better' - but a good movie, I think it'll win statues..
