Here's hoping the illness progresses really slowly.

Not nice! All the best ones have gone/are going. Is there a rare literarian disease or something? Will they find that everyone who spends more than an average of four hours a day writing books will die early?

One of my favourite authors. Pratchett seems to be one of those writers who inspires tremendous loyalty in his fans.
Here's hoping!

I stopped reading Pratchett a few years back but he will (hopefully some time away) be a loss.
This is what happens when you get older folks: your idols get older too.

What cr@p news. Alzheimers/dementia is an awful illness, I hope that they'll find some treatment that works before it's too late for Terry.
Good luck.

I know this does sound like grapsing at straws a little, but celebrities getting illnesses can be very positive for the ill in general, in terms of public support, awareness, etc.. And as trig said, Terry does have a lot of loyal fans. Still, it's pretty bad, whichever way you cut it.

Drat!
Let’s hope he can retire in dignity before making too much fuzz of himself.
I’ve seen Alzheimer’s disease both as family member and as professional. None is uplifting.
The patient usually is suffering less when the condition gets worse, but then the family suffers more.
