Ok; I'm not sure what all the hollywood mistakes are but Reloaded & Revolutions was "cliché"; predictable, cheesy, if those are hollywood mistakes. Lowest common denominator; I have no idea just what that would be so I guess I pass......
So maybe they don't fit the definition exactly but I definetely was disappointed; especially with the price of movie tickets these days and the potential of the original idea.....
To each their own. smiley - cider

Matrix Reloaded must come in here. Because that tried to give off the impression it was intelligent, but was just so dumb. That scene with the architect using fancy words he didn´t know what meant was just toe cringing. Pretentious sh*te.

..but I think Revolutions was worsersmiley - winkeye

I ended up laughing at it so much, and guessing what each next line was going to be. Usually correctly.

Can I suggest Jeepers Creepers? Or is that horror rather than sci-fi.

And another vote for Godzilla - only time I've ever fallen asleep in a cinema.smiley - zzz

Somebody mentioned "Battlestar Galactica"
I have the sorry experience to be able to say I saw it here in the UK when it was presented in "Sensurround". This basically involved having several immense early subwoofer speakers scattered around the cinema and all turned to "Max"
The resulting low frequency vibration (Only used if I remember correctly when the "Viper" spaceships took off) were heavy enough to rattle and dislodge any fillings you had in your teeth.

For that reason alone and the failure of the whole "Sensurround" experience, I crown Battlestar Galactica the worst SF movie EVER.

Oh yes - forgot to mention that the all time cheesy gem disaster flick "Earthquake" was also presented in Sensurround here in the UK. That means I put up with TWO films in that awful format.........AARRRGGHHHHsmiley - yuk

I liked Revolutions better. Partly because my expectations had been lowered so much I guess. And it wasn´t being pretentious, it more admitted to just being dumb action.

Have to say, although the original Battlestar Galactica was easily the cheesiest film ever made, I thought the recent remake was excellent - both intelligent and moving. They even made a bit of an effort to be scientifically credible - no sound in space, the use of nuclear weapons and no "turbo" buttons smiley - laugh.

I'm not going to add any films to the debate. Between you you've already mentioned every dumb SF film I've ever seen - and some I haven't but know by reputation. This is in response to B'Elana, who said, "I haven't seen Thunderbirds, just was told it derived from the Captain Scarlett series". Whoever told you that was an eejit. Not only did Captain Scarlett come some years *after* Thunderbirds, but every series Anderson did stood on its own, with none of them deriving from any other. His best-known animated series in date order are: Fireball XL5 (1962), Stingray (1963), Thunderbirds (1964), Captain Scarlett (1967), Joe 90 (1968).

**Every series Anderson did stood on its own, with none of them deriving from any other**

Forgive the Anorak in me, but I understood they were "Stand Alone" series, but where in fact supposed to be based in the same period off in the future?
Now THAT would be a cheesy movie - Fireball, (Dont forget Supercar), Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlett and Joe 90 all interacting in a weird Anderson universe!

Kerr_Avon - hunting stray apostrophes and gutting poorly parsed sentences

Yes and no. The comic TV Century 21 provided a (officially sanctioned) backstory which went into detail of the universe that Captain Scarlet, Thunderbirds, Stingray and Fireball XL5 were set in yes. No the other series weren't shown, no none of the series ever referenced each other on-screen.

one of our more silly drunken conversations goes along the lines of the various sci-fi universes co-existing. Like Startrek Voyager coming across the Cylons. Or Dr. Who encountering Q. Or whatever those white psychic aliens from Battle Beyond the Stars were arriving at Babylon 5.

Well, if that happened I reckon the Cybermen would mullah the Borg.......

Daleks? Big girls blouses. The Cybermen were dead hard!

Well yes, but sadly the Cybermen decided to take on The Blob and lost. It was a sad day, but part of being a successful bady is thinking before you act.

I just realised you said Cybermen in the first post, I misread it as Cylon! Yes, the Cybermen would easily trash the Borg, no questions!

I read a partial fan-fic where the SG-1 team went through the Stargate and met up with the crew from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Unfortunately the author didn't finish the story (I think they only got as far as the meeting), so I don't know how they thought it would end.

thought I'd add my smiley - 2cents on the 5 dumbest SF films...

1. Battlefield Earth -- friend took me (for free!) and I still walked out -- I mean, how much of my irreplacable life am I expected to give up?

2. The Black Hole -- Disney's nadir of SF

3. Mars Attacks -- rented it, returned it without finishing it

4. Star Wars 1 -- Jar Jar Binks, need I say more?

5. Mission to Mars -- tried hard, but ridiculous on the face of it

Funny, I've seen some films which might be called dumb, but they were fun, so I've left them off.

I'm a little divided on #5 above, as well: went to see it with some rocket-scientist friends, and we had a blast afterward picking it to pieces over dinner!

Mission to Mars, did that have the woman from Pulp Fiction in it (Bruce Willis' GF in Pulp Fiction)?

If do, I've regrettably seen that. smiley - sadface Woeful, it had all the professionalism of a 50s B movie with none of the special effects.
I'm amazed a film that bad could be made in this day and age - it was so cheap. smiley - yuk
